1. Effects of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Pendant-Armed Ligands on the Catecholase Activity of Dinuclear Copper(II) Complexes
Herein, we present three new binuclear copper(II) complexes containing different polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, able to catalyze the oxidation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcathecol, a model substrate for catechol oxidase. The ligands and complexes were successful characterized in solid and solution states. The structure of C1 was determined by X-ray crystallograph

2. Effect of Using Biomimetic Analogs on Dentin Remineralization with Bioactive Cements

3. Biomimetic Coating of Mechanochemically Synthesized Zirconium Titanate
A biomimetic method was used to promote bioactivity of ZrTiO4. Zirconium titanate was obtained by using a combination of techniques such as mechanical milling and heat treatment of zirconia and titania powders. The effect of milling time on the evolution of the ZrTiO4 phase formation was studied. Powders were uniaxially pressed followed by heat treatment for

4. Synthesis of Bis-Strychnos Alkaloids (–)-Sungucine, (–)-Isosungucine, and (–)-Strychnogucine B from (–)-Strychnine
It was developed a concise synthetic route resulting in the first syntheses of bis-Strychnos alkaloids (-)-sungucine, (-)-isosungucine, and (-)-strychnogucine B from commercially available (-)-strychnine. Employing a highly convergent synthetic strategy, it was demonstrated that both Strychnos monomers could be efficiently prepared from commercially availabl

5. Using Bio-Replicated Forming Technologies to Fabricate Shark-Skin Surface
ABSTRACT Shark-skin surfaces show the non-smoothness characteristics due to the presence of riblet structures. In this work, biomimetic shark-skins were prepared by means of different bio-replicated forming techniques. These techniques include the PDMS elastomeric stamping method (e.g., PES method) and the PDMS embedded-elastomeric stamping method (e.g., PEE

6. Titanium Coating with Hydroxyapatite and Chitosan Doped with Silver Nitrate
Biomaterials are effective alternatives for tissue substitution, including the bone tissue, since they do not pose risks of transmission of diseases or immune rejection. Nowadays, there is an interest in new materials capable of being associated with other substances which favor bone formation, especially natural biopolymers, in particular chitosan, which ma

7. Cytotoxicity Analysis of Ti-7.5Mo Alloy After Biomimetic Surface Treatment to Use as Dental Materials
Titanium (Ti) and its alloys are widely used for medical and dental fields due to their excellent biocompatibility, high corrosion resistance, high specific strength and excellent mechanical properties. Different methods have been developed to improve the surface properties of titanium-based implant materials, and consequently the bone-bonding ability. The T

8. Characterization of the Mandible Atta Laevigata and the Bioinspiration for the Development of a Biomimetic Surgical Clamp
Approximately thousand years ago it was reported the use of mandibles of ants for suture. In this sense, bioinspired components, as absorbable surgical clamps, can be designed. This study is aimed to characterize the mandible of the ant Atta laevigata in order to help the selection of candidate biomaterials for application as surgical clamps. Three pairs of

9. Manufacture of nanosized apatite coatings on titanium with different surface treatments using a supersaturated calcification solution
The biomimetic method is used for the deposition of calcium phosphate coatings (Ca - P) on the surface of different biomaterials. However, the application of this method requires long exposure times in order to obtain a suitable layer thickness for its use in medical devices. In this paper, we present a fast approach to obtain apatite coatings on titanium, u

10. Nanofibrous Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering Applications
The discipline of tissue engineering opens up the ways for repair and regenerate damaged organs and tissues. In the current work biomimetic nanofibrous scaffolds were fabricated by electrospinning. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) was blended with collagen and gelatin to fabricate PLLLA-collagen and PLLA-gelatin fibrous scaffolds respectively. Pure PLLA and gelatin

11. Is phototridachiahydropyrone a true natural product?
Abstract The occurrence of (−)-phototridachiahydropyrone (5) in nature has been proven. This compound has been now identified as minor component of the extract of marine sacoglossan mollusk Elysia crispata from which the main (−)-tridachiahydropyrone (4) was previously described. Synthetic (±)-5 was formerly obtained by Moses’ group by biomimetic phot

12. Biomimetic Sensor for Detection of Hydrochlorothiazide Employing Amperometric Detection and Chemometrics for Application in Doping in Sports
This work describes a simple and cost-effective method for quantitative determination of hydrochlorothiazide using biomimetic sensor based on a carbon paste modified with hemin (biomimetic catalyst of the P450 enzyme). The sensor was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry and amperometry for its electrochemical characterization and quantification, respectively.
