1. Guidelines for the management of human brucellosis in the State of Paraná, Brazil
Abstract Human brucellosis is a re-emerging disease with the potential for bioterrorism. The number of cases in Brazil has increased; however, the ideal management has not been established. These guidelines are intended for use by clinicians and other health-care workers providing medical care for patients with suspected brucellosis in the State of Paraná.

2. Extracellular phospholipase production of oral Candida albicans isolates from smokers, diabetics, asthmatics, denture wearers and healthy individuals following brief exposure to polyene, echinocandin and azole antimycotics
Abstract Objective Candida albicans is the primary causative agent of oral candidosis, and one of its key virulent attributes is considered to be its ability to produce extracellular phospholipases that facilitate cellular invasion. Oral candidosis can be treated with polyenes, and azoles, and the more recently introduced echinocandins. However, once admini

3. Impact of brief exposure to antifungal agents on the post-antifungal effect and hemolysin activity of oral Candida albicans
AbstractPost-antifungal effect (PAFE) of Candida and its production of hemolysin are determinants of candidal pathogenicity. Candida albicans is the foremost aetiological agent of oral candidosis, which can be treated with polyene, azole, and echinocandin antifungals. However, once administered, the intraoral concentrations of these drugs tend to be subthera

4. Tamanhos pictóricos percebidos sobre gradientes de textura desenhados e fotografados após exposições breves / Pictorial size perceived under line-drawing and photographed texture gradient after brief exposures

6. Efeitos biomoleculares do JB-1 (um peptídeo análogo do IGF-1) em um modelo experimental de retinopatia induzida por oxigênio em ratos / Biomolecular effects of jb-1 (an igf-1 peptide analog) in a Rat model of oxygen-induced retinopathy
INTRODUCTION: Low serum insulin growth factor (IGF-1) levels at birth is a risk factor for the development of retinopathy of prematurity in extremely low birth weight infants. This may be due to its role as a permissive factor for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) function in normal and pathologic vascular development. OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothes

7. Effects of single, brief exposure to an 8 mT electromagnetic field on avoidance learning in male and female mice
The present study investigated the effect of extremely low frequency (8 mT, 50 Hz) electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMF) on avoidance learning in mice and compared the effect of an ELF-EMF in adult male and female mice. Learning was evaluated using a passive avoidance learning procedure in a standard wooden box, in which, despite their instinctive tendencies, mic

8. Efficacy of clove oil as anesthetic in handling and transportation of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Actinopterygii: Cichlidae) juveniles
This work evaluated the efficiency of clove oil as anaesthetic in handling and transportation of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758). In the first experiment, safety concentrations of clove oil were assessed by measuring induction times to anaesthesia. The second experiment evaluated exposure times to anaesthetic. Clove oil efficiency during

10. The mirage of the Absolute. On the contraposition of Schopenhauer and Hegel: Critique, Speculation and the Philosophy of Religion / A "miragem" do absoluto - Sobre a contraposição de Schopenhauer a Hegel: crítica, especulação e filosofia da religião
This thesis seeks to reconstruct Schopenhauers criticism of Hegel, beyond invective and brief judgment. Though he does not write on the theme specifically, Schopenhauers critical position with regards to Hegel is formulated at several moments of his oeuvre. This work consists of reconstructing Schopenhauers criticism at first, by comparing it to the criticis

11. Comparações de tamanhos sob informações pictóricas de profundidade provenientes de gradientes de textura e horizonte em exposições breves / Size comparisons under effects of pictorial depth cues from texture gradient and horizon in brief exposures.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the duration of pictorial depth cue exposures on perceived sizes of stimuli. For this, 120 volunteers distributed randomly in 12 groups compared two vertical bars, one the test and other the standard, in to order to report which one was bigger. Using the method of constant stimuli, these bars could be p

12. Imprinting estrogenico : efeito sobre a expressão do receptor de androgeno no hipotalamo de ratos Wistar / Effects of estrogenic imprinting on the androgen receptor expression in the hypothalamus of Wistar rats
In male rats, complete reproductive function is critically dependent on adequate estrogen action at different levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. The administration of high doses during the period of sexual differentiation results in irreversible alterati ns in the male reproductive system. In brief, the estrogens have anti-androgenic effects
