1. Platelet function, coagulation and fibrinolysis in patients with previous coronary and cerebrovascular ischemic events
OBJECTIVES: Ischemic stroke (IS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA) history is present in 4-17% of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). This subgroup of patients is at high risk for both ischemic and bleeding events. The aim of this study was to determine the role of platelet aggregability, coagulation and endogenous fibrinolysis in patients with CA

2. Mibefradil reduces blood glucose concentration in db/db mice
OBJECTIVE: Numerous recent studies suggest that abnormal intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) is a common defect in diabetic animal models and patients. Abnormal calcium handling is an important mechanism in the defective pancreatic β-cell function in type 2 diabetes. T-type Ca2+ channel antagonists lower blood glucose in type 2 diabetes, but the

4. Participação dos canais de potássio no efeito relaxante do ácido ent-7a-hidroxitraquiloban-18-oico em traqueia isolada de cobaia / Participation of potassium channels in the ent-7a-hidroxitrachyloban-18-oic acid relaxation effect on guinea pig trachea
From Xylopia langsdorfiana A. St-Hil. &Tul. stem bark was isolated the diterpene of trachylobane class, ent-7α-hydroxytrachyloban-18-oic acid (trachylobane-318) that in previous studies showed to be able to relax guinea-pig trachea pre-contracted by carbachol (CCh). Thus, we aimed to investigate the action mechanism underlying in this trachylobane-318 r

5. Anticonvulsant and antiarrhythmic effects of nifedipine in rats prone to audiogenic seizures
Calcium ion participates in the regulation of neural transmission and the presynaptic release of neurotransmitters. It is also involved in epileptic events, cardiac arrhythmias and abnormal conduction of stimuli. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker, on epileptic seizures and on reperfusion arr

6. Ações da epitestosterona através de um mecanismo de membrana em células de Sertoli : implicações no desenvolvimento sexual
Introduction: Epitestosterone is the 17¿-epimer of testosterone. It seems to possess an antiandrogenic activity, as well as a neuroprotective effect. The mechanism of action of epitestosterone has not been elucidated. Objective: The aim of this work is to investigate the non-classical effect of epitestosterone on the membrane of Sertoli cells from testis of

9. Avaliação da atividade vasorrelaxante da alga marinha brasileira Dictyota pulchella Hörning &Schnetter em ratos normotensos / Evaluation of vasorelaxant activity from brazilian marine algae Dictyota pulchella Hörnig &Schnetter in normotensive rats.

10. Renal- and calcium-dependent vascular effects of Polybia paulista wasp venom
In the present study, the effects of Polybia paulista venom (PPV) on renal and vascular tissues were investigated. Isolated kidneys perfused with PPV (1 and 3 μg/mL) had increased perfusion pressure, renal vascular resistance, urinary flow, and glomerular filtration rate; and reduced sodium tubular transport. Histological evaluation demonstrated deposits of

11. Effect of felodipine on myocardial and renal injury induced by aldosterone-high salt hypertension in uninephrectomized rats
It has been recently shown that calcium channel blockers might have a protective effect on cardiac fibrogenesis induced by aldosterone. The objective of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of felodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, against heart and kidney damage caused by aldosterone-high sodium intake in uninephrectomized rats.

12. Síntese em fase sólida convergente de derivados 5-amidos diidropirimidinonas
Dihydropirimidinones (DHPMs) are molecules whose synthesis is known since 1893, and lately has been receiving increased attention due to its diversity of pharmacological actions, such as: anti-tumor activity, antiviral, antiinflammatory, calcium channel blocker and antiparasitic. In our study, we performed the synthesis of DHPM, its hydrolysis by conventiona
