1. Biting the hand that feeds you: wedge-billed hummingbird is a nectar robber of a sicklebill-adapted Andean bellflower
ABSTRACT I report on nectar robbing behavior of the wedge-billed hummingbird, Schistes geoffroyi (Trochilidae) on the Andean bellflower, Centropogon granulosus (Campanulaceae). Many species of Centropogon are characterized by an abruptly curved corolla tube which is likely specialized for pollination by sicklebill hummingbirds (Eutoxeres), as evident from th

3. Campanulaceae no Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, Brasil

The genus Lobella L. belongs to family Campanulaceae Juss. and to the subfamily Lobelloideae Scholand, where this is the biggest genus in number of species. In Brazil, 16 species and two new subspecies have been recognized and according to the infrageneric classification by WIMMER (1957), they are includede in two subgenera and three different sections.

9. Genome-Scale Evolution: Reconstructing Gene Orders in the Ancestral Species
Recent progress in genome-scale sequencing and comparative mapping raises new challenges in studies of genome rearrangements. Although the pairwise genome rearrangement problem is well-studied, algorithms for reconstructing rearrangement scenarios for multiple species are in great need. The previous approaches to multiple genome rearrangement problem were la

10. East Gondwana ancestry of the sunflower alliance of families
The sunflower alliance of families comprises nearly 10% of all flowering plant species and includes the largest of all plant families, the sunflower family Asteraceae, which has 23,000 species, and the bellflower family Campanulaceae. Both are worldwide in distribution, but the majority of their species occur in the northern hemisphere. Recently it has been

11. Thorn-like prickles and heterophylly in Cyanea: adaptations to extinct avian browsers on Hawaii?
The evolution of thorn-like structures in plants on oceanic islands that lack mammalian and reptilian herbivores is puzzling, as is their tendency toward juvenile-adult leaf dimorphism. We propose that these traits arose in Cyanea (Campanulaceae) on Hawaii as mechanical and visual defenses against herbivory by flightless geese and goose-like ducks that were
