1. Cardiovascular involvement in COVID-19: not to be missed
Abstract In December 2019, a striking appearance of new cases of viral pneumonia in Wuhan led to the detection of a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV2). By analyzing patients with severe manifestations, it became apparent that 20 to 35% of patients who died had preexisting cardiovascular disease. This finding warrants the important need to discuss the influence of

2. Goal-directed therapy in patients with early acute kidney injury: a multicenter randomized controlled trial
OBJECTIVES: Acute kidney injury is associated with many conditions, and no interventions to improve the outcomes of established acute kidney injury have been developed. We performed this study to determine whether goal-directed therapy conducted during the early stages of acute kidney injury could change the course of the disease. METHODS: This was a multi

3. Extended-time of Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation Improves Tissue Perfusion after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: a Randomized Clinical Trial
Abstract Objective: To compare the effects of extended- versus short-time noninvasive positive pressure ventilation on pulmonary function, tissue perfusion, and clinical outcomes in the early postoperative period following coronary artery bypass surgery in patients with preserved left ventricular function. Methods: Patients were randomized into two groups

4. The feasibility of an experimental model of donors after cardiac death in remote ischemic preconditioning studies for renal transplantation in porcine
PURPOSE:To evaluate the feasibility of an experimental model of donors after cardiac death in remote ischemic preconditioning studies.METHODS: Twelve Landrace pigs were used as organ donors. They underwent cardiac arrest by coronary en block suture and interruption of ventilatory support. Haemodynamic data regarding the donor surgical protocol were evaluated

5. Evolution of central venous saturation oxygen, lactate and base deficit in severe sepsis and septic shock patients submitted to early volemic resuscitation / Evolução dos valores de saturação venosa central de oxigênio, lactato e déficit de base em cães com sepse grave e choque séptico submetidos à ressuscitação volêmica precoce
Sepsis is a clinical syndrome that causes changes in the microcirculation characteristics, making the assessment of tissue perfusion. In humans, studies have shown the importance of establishing a therapy based on routine clinical assessments and the variables of oxygenation and tissue perfusion and central venous saturation of oxygen, lactate and base defic

6. Impact of early goal-directed therapy on morbidity and mortality of children with severe sepsis and septic shock / Impacto do tratamento precoce guiado por metas sobre a morbidade e mortalidade da sepse grave e do choque séptico em crianças
Introduction: ACCM/PALS guidelines address early correction of pediatric septic shock using conventional measures. In the evolution of these recommendations indirect measures of the balance between systemic oxygen delivery and demands using central venous or superior vena cava oxygen saturation (ScvO2 70%) in a goal directed approach have been added. However

7. Disfunção renal e síndrome de baixo débito cardíaco / Renal dysfunction and low cardiac output syndrome
Background: The low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) is a serious and complex stage in the pathophysiology of heart failure. Regional blood flow alters depending on different organs and systems, with special impact on the kidney. Acute renal failure is common in patients with LOCS, and it is an independent predictor of increased morbidity and mortality. Object

8. Avaliação dos efeitos hemodinâmicos, respiratórios, metabólicos e sedativos da dexmedetomidina isolada ou associada à tiletamina-zolazepam em cães. Estudo experimental / Hemodinamic, respiratory, metabolic and sedative effects evaluation of dexmedetomidine alone or associated with tiletamine-zolazepam in dogs. Experimental study
The aim of the present study was to evaluate hemodynamic, respiratory and metabolic alterations, the quality of induction and recovery of the animal, as well as sedation and muscular relaxation promoted by the use of dexmedetomidine alone or associated to tiletamine-zolazepam. Eighteen healthy male and female mongrel dogs were used and randomly assigned to t

9. Relation between caval and pulmonary artery oxygen saturation in children.
The flow relation between that in the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava was studied in order to estimate the oxygen saturation of mixed venous blood in connection with heart catheterisation of children between the ages of 5 and 8 years without cardiac shunts. The investigation includes a group of 19 children examined during halothane anaesthesia and

10. Central venous oxygen saturation and emergency intubation – another piece in the puzzle?
A recent multicentre observational study examined the effect of emergency intubation on central venous oxygen saturation (SCVo2) in critically ill patients. The main finding was that SCVo2 significantly increases 15 minutes after emergency intubation and institution of mechanical ventilation with 100% oxygen, especially in those patients with pre-intubation

11. Tissue oxygenation and muscular substrate turnover in two subjects with high hemoglobin oxygen affinity.
Oxygen transport to and substrate turnover in leg muscle were studied at rest and during light and heavy upright bicycle exercise in two brothers with a hereditary hemoglobinopathy associated with high oxygen affinity (P50 = 13 mmHg). Femoral venous oxygen tension was below normal and femoral venous oxygen saturation above normal at rest and during exercise.
