1. Bullous pemphigoid
Abstract: Bullous pemphigoid is the most frequent autoimmune bullous disease and mainly affects elderly individuals. Increase in incidence rates in the past decades has been attributed to population aging, drug-induced cases and improvement in the diagnosis of the nonbullous presentations of the disease. A dysregulated T cell immune response and synthesis of

2. Trichoderma harzianum MTCC 5179 impacts the population and functional dynamics of microbial community in the rhizosphere of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.)
Abstract Employing Illumina Hiseq whole genome metagenome sequencing approach, we studied the impact of Trichoderma harzianum on altering the microbial community and its functional dynamics in the rhizhosphere soil of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.). The metagenomic datasets from the rhizosphere with (treatment) and without (control) T. harzianum inoculation

3. Determination of multidrug resistance mechanisms in Clostridium perfringens type A isolates using RNA sequencing and 2D-electrophoresis
In this study, we screened differentially expressed genes in a multidrug-resistant isolate strain of Clostridium perfringens by RNA sequencing. We also separated and identified differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in the isolate strain by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and mass spectrometry (MS). The RNA sequencing results showed that, compared w

4. Anti-inflammatory activity and chemical analysis of extracts from Trifolium riograndense
Abstract Aiming to investigate new therapeutic agents with fewer side effects, the number of studies about natural products has increased. Phenolic compounds comprise a well-studied class of abundant plant-derived compounds, whose anti-inflammatory activity has been described. Isoflavones are phenolic compounds that occur mainly in the Leguminosae family, an

5. Microbial interactions: ecology in a molecular perspective
ABSTRACT The microorganism-microorganism or microorganism-host interactions are the key strategy to colonize and establish in a variety of different environments. These interactions involve all ecological aspects, including physiochemical changes, metabolite exchange, metabolite conversion, signaling, chemotaxis and genetic exchange resulting in genotype sel

6. Biological characterization of compounds from Rhinella schneideri poison that act on the complement system
Background The skin secretions of toads of the family Bufonidae contain biogenic amines, alkaloids, steroids (bufotoxins), bufodienolides (bufogenin), peptides and proteins. The poison of Rhinella schneideri, formerly classified as Bufo paracnemis, presents components that act on different biological systems, including the complement system. The aim of this

7. Bothrops snake venoms and their isolated toxins, an L-amino acid oxidase and a serine protease, modulate human complement system pathways
Background Activation of the complement system plays an important role in the regulation of immune and inflammatory reactions, and contributes to inflammatory responses triggered by envenomation provoked byBothrops snakes. The present study aimed to assess whether Bothrops jararacussuand Bothrops pirajai crude venoms and their isolated toxins, namely serine

8. Phylogeny and molecular dating of the cerato-platanin-encoding genes
The cerato-platanin family consists of proteins that can induce immune responses, cause necrosis, change chemotaxis and locomotion and may be related to the growth and development of various fungi. In this work, we analyzed the phylogenetic relationships among genes encoding members of the cerato-platanin family and computed the divergence times of the genes

9. Fc?R e CR3 no lúpus eritematoso sistêmico: variantes polimórficas e sua influência na fagocitose e desgranulação dos neutrófilos / Fc?R and CR in systemic lupus erythematosus: polimorphisms and their influence in the phagocytosis and degranulation of neutrophils
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease in which disease-related and genetic factors and immunosuppressive and cytotoxic therapies all contribute to an increased susceptibility to infections. Factors predisposing to infection include defects in chemotaxis, abnormalities in neutrophil phagocytic activity, decreased immune complex (IC) and

11. Effect of obesity on eosinophil activity in atopic asthmatic children and adolescents / Efeito da obesidade na atividade eosinofílica em crianças e adolescentes asmáticos atópicos

12. Avaliação funcional dos eosinófilos na anemia falciforme e o efeito do tratamento com hidroxiureia / Altered functional properties of eosinophils in sickle cell anemia and effects of hydroxyurea therapy
Sickle cell anemia is the homozygous state for hemoglobin S. Inflammation plays an important role in the vaso-occlusive process of the disease, where leukocytes, proinflammatory cytokines and adhesion molecules are increased in the peripheral blood of patients with sickle cell anemia. Leukocytosis is associated with morbidity and mortality in these patients.
