1. Additive Manufacturing towards the Fabrication of Greener Electrochemical Sensors for Antioxidants
Additive manufacturing is an emerging tool that has contributed to the sustainable fabrication of devices in several areas based on the concept of “zero waste”. Considering extrusion-based manufacturing (or 3D printing), polylactic acid (PLA) has been highlighted due to its biodegradability, obtention from renewable sources, and compatibility for 3D prin

2. Novel PEG 4000 derivatives and its use in controlled release of drug indomethacin
The insertion of functional groups in polymer compounds may facilitate their interaction with different drugs. PEG polymers are widely used for their low melting point, low toxicity, drug compatibility, and hydrophilicity. They are used as pharmaceutical excipients for the formulation of conventional or modified released drugs and are designed to be upgraded

4. AVALIAÇÃO DO PERFIL DE LIBERAÇÃO DO FÁRMACO IBUPROFENO EM MEMBRANAS SIMÉTRICAS E ASSIMÉTRICAS DE ACETATO DE CELULOSE: EFEITO DA MORFOLOGIA
Cellulose derivatives still receive special attention in today biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility, ability to form resistant membranes and compatibility with various bioactive agents. In this work, cellulose acetate (CA) was used to prepare membranes with different morphologies aiming to evaluate the release profile of the drug ibuprofen (

5. Surface Esterification of Sisal Fibres for use as Reinforcement in Cementitious Matrix
Vegetable fibres have been shown to be promising as reinforcement in composites because they are abundant, renewable, and low cost. However, the fibre-matrix interaction can be damaged by dimensional variation of vegetable fibres, due to moisture variations. The alkaline medium of cementitious matrix is aggressive to natural fibres, compromising their durabi

6. Effect of Y Content on Properties of Extruded Zn-1.5Mg-xY Alloys for Medical Applications
In this work, we investigated the effect of yttrium(Y) on microstructure, the mechanical and corrosion properties and the cytotoxicity of Zn-1.5Mg-xY(x=0, 0.2, 0.5wt%) alloys prepared by casting and extrusion. The results showed that the microstructure of extruded Zn-1.5Mg-xY alloys consisted of α-Zn matrix, Mg2Zn11 particles and Y containing blocks. The te

7. Midazolam and haloperidol for palliative sedation: physicochemical stability and compatibility of parenteral admixtures
This study was done to determine the time while the binary admixtures with midazolam and haloperidol drugs are administered by perfusion to the patients in the clinical routine. Samples with different concentrations of both drugs were prepared following the usual clinical practice. Solvents used were 0.9 % sodium chloride solution and 5% dextrose, and viaflo

8. Electrospinning synthesis and assessment of physicochemical properties and biocompatibility of cobalt nitrate fibers for wound healing applications
Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop polyurethane (PU) wound dressing incorporated with cobalt nitrate using electrospinning technique. The morphology analysis revealed that the developed composites exhibited reduced fiber and pore diameter than the pristine PU. The electrospun membranes exhibited average porosity in the range of 67% - 71%. Energy-

9. Two-Dimensional Numerical Model of the Fracture Process in Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete with the Continuum Strong Discontinuity Approach and Functional Data Analysis
Abstract This paper presents the formulation of a two-dimensional numeri-cal model able to describe the fracture process in structural mem-bers of steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) from the volume ratio of the fibres and the mechanical properties of the compo-nents: a concrete matrix and a set of steel fibres with a random orientation. The relationship

10. Sericin as compatibilizer in starch/ polyester blown films
Abstract This study investigated the effects of low concentrations of sericin (≤ 1.5 wt%) in starch- poly(butylene-adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) films. The films were produced by blown extrusion and mechanical, barrier and structural properties were determined. Films containing 1.0 and 1.5 wt% sericin showed higher tensile strength (6.41 and 6.59 MPa)

11. Effect of Thermo-Mechanical Treatments on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of the Metastable β-type Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta Alloy
In this work, theoretical composition design and thermo-mechanical treatments were combined in order to improve the mechanical compatibility of a biomedical β-type titanium alloy. By applying a composition design theory, cold rolling and low temperature aging, a metastable β-type Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta (wt%) alloy with an elastic modulus of 47 GPa and a yield str

12. EFFECT OF NANOSILICA ON THERMAL, FLAMMABILITY, AND MORPHOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF WF/RPS-BASED NANOCOMPOSITES
ABSTRACT The present study considered the effect of nanosilica levels on the thermal, flammability, and morphological properties of nanocomposites made of wood flour and recycled polystyrene. To do so, the recycled polystyrene (50%), wood flour (50%), nanosilica (four levels of nanosilica; 0, 2, 4 and 6 phc (parts per hundred compounds)), and maleic anhydrid
