1. Antivenomics as a tool to improve the neutralizing capacity of the crotalic antivenom: a study with crotamine
Abstract Background Snakebite treatment requires administration of an appropriate antivenom that should contain antibodies capable of neutralizing the venom. To achieve this goal, antivenom production must start from a suitable immunization protocol and proper venom mixtures. In Brazil, antivenom against South American rattlesnake (Crotalus durissus terrif

2. Cross-neutralization of the coagulant activity of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom from the northeast of Argentina by bivalent bothropic antivenom
Cross-neutralization of Crotalus durissus terrificus venom coagulant activity was tested using bivalent horse antivenom against Bothrops alternatus and Bothrops diporus venoms. Our in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that bothropic antivenom neutralizes the thrombin-like activity of crotalic snake venom and this cross-reaction was demonstrated by immunoa

3. Aspectos estruturais de proteínas do veneno crotálico modificadas por radiação ionizante / Structural aspects of crotalic venom proteins modified by ionizing radiation

4. IgG antibodies against phospholipase A2 from Crotalus durissus terrificus: cross-reaction with venoms from Bothrops species from Argentina
We examined the ability of IgG anti-crotalic PLA2 to cross-react with Bothrops spp. venoms, from snakes found in the northeast of Argentina. Immunoblotting and ELISA tests showed that IgG anti-crotalic PLA2 recognize antigens of bothropic venoms. Indirect hemolytic activity tests showed that the quantity of antibodies that neutralized 50% of Crotalus durissu

5. Kinetics of venom and antivenom serum levels, clinical evaluation and therapeutic effectiveness in dogs inoculated with Crotalus durissus terrificus venom
This work evaluated the clinical and therapeutic aspects as well as serum levels of venom and antivenom IgG by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in experimental envenomation of dogs with Crotalus durissus terrificus venom. Twenty-eight mixed breed adult dogs were divided into four groups of seven animals each, Group I: only venom; Group II, venom + 5

6. Young ovine death during hyperimmunization: crotalic envenomation or copper toxicosis?
The unfavorable evolution of a young ovine during hyperimmunization process with Crotalus durissus terrificus venom was investigated in order to differentiate its origin between ophidic envenomation and copper toxicosis. Clinical, laboratory, necroscopic and histological exams as well as evaluation and measurement of heavy metals (copper) in the kidneys and

7. Structural and pharmacological characterization of new crotalic PLA IND.2 isoforms, from Crotalus durissus cumanensis and Crotalus durissus ruruima venons / Caracterização bioquimica e farmacologica de novas isoformas de PLA IND.2 crotalicas : Crotalus durissus cumanensis e Crotalus durissus ruruima
Na região norte do Brasil a serpente Crotalus durissus ruruima (C.d.r) é responsável por diversos casos de acidentes ofídicos, e é principalmente encontrada próxima à fronteira com a Venezuela e Colômbia. Contudo a Crotalus durissus cumanensis (C.d.c). é outra serpente bastante comum no sul da Venezuela próximo a fronteira com o Brasil. Ambas as se

8. Variation of blood profile during the hyperimmunization and after bleeding and plasmapherese in equine serum hyperimune anticrotalics production / Variações da crase sangüínea durante a hiperimunização e após sangria e plasmaferese em eqüinos de produção de soro hiperimune anti-crotálico

10. Neutralização de atividades farmacologicas e enzimaticas de venenos crotalicos perante antivenenos
Crotoxin, the main neurotoxin from venom of the rattlesnakes Crotalus durissus terrificus and Crotalus durissus cascavella, is a protein complex that contains a phospholipase A2 (PLA2) basic and an acid protein, crotapotin. The venom and the purified crotoxin from C. d. cascavella venom were studied with relationship to the neurotoxic and myotoxic effects in

11. Humoral response and neutralization capacity of sheep serum inoculated with natural and Cobalt 60-irradiated Crotalus durissus terrificus venom (Laurenti, 1768)
The aim of this work was to investigate antigen irradiation on crotalic antivenom and the capacity of sheep as serum producers. Twelve sheep in two groups of six were inoculated with Crotalus durissus terrificus venom. One group was inoculated with natural venom (NV) and the other with Cobalt 60 gamma-irradiated venom (IrV). Three antigen doses were given to

12. Miotoxinas PLA2 "like" de Bothrops pirajai : caracterização molecular e funcional
The genus Bothrops comprises severaI species, which are widely distributed in South and North America. Among the bioactive proteins from Bothrops venoms, the phospholipase A2(PLA2,E.C.3.1.14) and PLA2-likemyotoxin are outstanding as their major components. Phospholipase A2Sare calcium-dependent enzymes which hydrolyze the 2 ester bonds of 1,2 diacyl-3sn phos
