6. Stabilization of microbial cytochrome P-450 activity by creation of station-phase conditions in a continuously operated immobilized-cell reactor.
Bacillus megaterium (ATCC 13368) exhibits cytochrome P-450 monooxygenase activity (referred to herein as Cyt P-450 meg) catalyzing 15 beta-steroid hydroxylation. This activity belongs to the widespread ferredoxin reductase-ferredoxin-Cyt P-450 type of monooxygenases, providing a representative model system for this type of activity. The level of Cyt P-450 me

7. Cytochrome P450 Monooxygenases for Fatty Acids and Xenobiotics in Marine Macroalgae1
The metabolism of xenobiotics has mainly been investigated in higher plant species. We studied them in various marine macroalgae of the phyla Chlorophyta, Chromophyta, and Rhodophyta. Microsomes contained high oxidative activities for known cytochrome (Cyt) P450 substrates (fatty acids, cinnamic acid, 3- and 4-chlorobiphenyl, 2,3-dichlorobiphenyl, and

8. A cytochrome b5 is required for full activity of flavonoid 3′,5′-hydroxylase, a cytochrome P450 involved in the formation of blue flower colors
The substitution pattern of anthocyanin pigments is a main determinant of flower color. Flavonoid 3′,5′-hydroxylase (F3′5′H) is a cytochrome P450 enzyme (Cyt P450) that catalyzes the 3′,5′-hydroxylation of dihydroflavonols, the precursors of purple anthocyanins. Species such as rose and carnation lack F3′5′H activity and are, therefore, unabl

9. Involvement of Cytochrome P450 in Glucosinolate Biosynthesis in White Mustard (A Biochemical Anomaly).
One of the first steps in glucosinolate biosynthesis is the conversion of amino acids to their aldoximes. The biochemistry of this process is controversial, and several very different enzyme systems have been described. The major glucosinolate in white mustard (Sinapis alba) is sinalbin, which is derived from tyrosine via its aldoxime, and this conversion is

10. Microsomal Electron Transfer in Higher Plants: Cloning and Heterologous Expression of NADH-Cytochrome b5 Reductase from Arabidopsis
AtCBR, a cDNA encoding NADH-cytochrome (Cyt) b5 reductase, and AtB5-A and AtB5-B, two cDNAs encoding Cyt b5, were isolated from Arabidopsis. The primary structure deduced from the AtCBR cDNA was 40% identical to those of the NADH-Cyt b5 reductases of yeast and mammals. A recombinant AtCBR protein prepared using a baculovirus system exhibited typical sp

11. Purification to homogeneity and enzymological characterization of a functional covalent complex composed of cytochromes P-450 isozyme 2 and b5 from rabbit liver.
A covalent complex between rabbit hepatic microsomal cytochromes P-450 isozyme 2 (LM2) and b5 was created and purified to greater than 95% homogeneity. The purified complex was largely comprised of the two cytochromes covalently attached at the interface of the functional electron transfer-effector complex as shown by the following evidence. The spin state o

12. Hemoproteins of Bradyrhizobium japonicum Cultured Cells and Bacteroids
The hemoprotein content of 17 strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum bacteroids from field-grown plants and the corresponding strains of cultured cells was determined spectrally. The major terminal oxidases, cytochromes (cyt) aa3 and o, were present in all strains of cultured cells. cyt aa3 was present in significant amounts in bacteroids only in strains of DNA
