1. Contrasting life-histories in two syntopic amphibians of the Leptodactylus fuscus group (Heyer 1978)
Abstract Abstract: We used skeletochronology to compare age, size, reproductive parameters and growth patterns of two related, anuran amphibians from Northern Argentina: Leptodactylus bufonius(n=69) andL. latinasus(n=56), in order to better understand their coexistence in syntopy. Previous studies showed that the two species overlap in their dietary requirem

2. Paleobiogeographic evolution and distribution of Carcharodontosauridae (Dinosauria, Theropoda) during the middle Cretaceous of North Africa
Abstract Over the last few decades, the systematics and evolution of carcharodontosaurids, a group of large predatory dinosaurs, from North Africa have been better understood mainly due the discovery of new species. We review this record here and discuss its importance for understanding the evolution and ecology of these dinosaurs. North Africa has one of th

3. The partitioning of food resources between two rodents in the subtropical region of southern Brazil
ABSTRACT The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) and nutria (Myocastor coypus) are herbivorous semi-aquatic rodents. Although these rodents occur in sympatry in southern South America, little is known about how the two species interact in relationship to food resources. In this context, the aim of this study was to analyze the food resource overlap, the fee

4. Use of food resources and resource partitioning among five syntopic species of Hypostomus (Teleostei: Loricariidae) in an Atlantic Forest river in southern Brazil
ABSTRACT We analyzed the diet and resource partitioning among five syntopic species of Hypostomus Lacépède, 1803 in the Corumbataí River in southeastern Brazil. The gut contents of 352 individuals were assessed and 21 food items were identified and quantified under an optical microscope. The food items found in the gut contents indicate that these suckerm

5. Use of food resources by small fish species in Neotropical rivers: responses to spatial and temporal variations
Spatial and temporal variations in food supply play a crucial role in the determination of the patterns of food use by fish species. This study evaluated spatial and temporal variations in food utilization by small fish species of the Verde River, Upper Paraná River Basin, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Samplings were conducted in the rainy and dry pe

6. The feeding habits of the eyespot skate Atlantoraja cyclophora (Elasmobranchii: Rajiformes) in southeastern Brazil
The stomach contents of the eyespot skate, Atlantoraja cyclophora (Regan, 1903), were examined with the goal to provide information about the diet of the species. Samples were collected off the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, near Ilha Grande, between January 2006 and August 2007, at a depth of about 60 m. The diet was analyzed by sex, maturity sta

7. Diet and functional feeding groups of Chironomidae (Diptera) in the Middle Paraná River floodplain (Argentina)
The gut contents of nine genera of benthic Chironominae and Tanypodinae from the Middle Paraná River floodplain habitats (a lake and a secondary channel) were analyzed to determine their feeding patterns and functional feeding groups. Amorphous detritus, animal and vegetal tissues, and mineral materials (predominantly sand) were observed in the larval guts.

8. Caracterização trófica da ictiofauna da Represa do Beija-Flor, na Estação Ecológica de Jataí, Luiz Antônio, SP
The feeding habits, reproduction and growth of omnivores, herbivores, detritivores and iliófagos fish species from the Beija-flor reservoir in Jataí Ecological Station were investigated. This provides information on the trophic interaction between species, feeding habits, establishing guilds and also provides subsidies for monitoring the the Beija-flor res

Biologia populacional e dieta de Stellifer rastrifer (Jordan, 1889) S. stellifer (Bloch, 1790) e S. brasiliensis (Schultz, 1945) (Perciformes, Sciaenidae) na Enseada de Caraguatabuba (SP) / Population biology and diet of Stellifer rastrifer (Jordan, 1889), S. stellifer (Bloch, 1790) and S. brasiliensis (Schultz, 1945) (Perciformes, Sciaenidae) from Caraguatatuba Bay (SP)

10. Ecologia alimentar e reprodutiva de duas espécies de Tropidodryas (Serpentes, Colubridae) da Mata Atlântica / Diet and reproduction of two snakes of the genus Tropidodryas (Serpentes, Colubridae) from the Atlantic Forest
Morphology, diet, habitat use, seasonal activity and reproductive biology were analyzed and compared between Tropidodryas serra and T. striaticeps along their geographical distribution in the Atlantic Forest. The distribution of these sister species do not overlap in most of their range, T. serra have its distribution in lower altitude areaswhile T. striatic

11. Overlap of dietary niche and electivity of three shrimp species (Crustacea, Decapoda) in a tropical coastal lagoon (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
Three species of shrimp, Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis (Latreille, 1817), F. paulensis (Pérez-Farfante, 1967) (Penaeidae) and Macrobrachium acanthurus (Wiegmann, 1836) (Palaemonidae) were sampled at the Imboassica lagoon (Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil), in order to estimate the overlap of dietary niches and electivity of their prey, through the analysis of th

12. The thyroid, iodine and breast cancer
A renewal of the search for a link between breast cancer and thyroid disease has once again demonstrated an increased prevalence of autoimmune thyroid disease in patients with breast cancer. This is the most recent of many studies showing an association between a variety of thyroid disorders and breast cancer. Such an association is not surprising as both di
