2. Imposition of Dirichlet Boundary Conditions in Element Free Galerkin Method through an Object-Oriented Implementation
Abstract One of the main drawbacks of Element Free Galerkin (EFG) method is its dependence on moving least square shape functions which don’t satisfy the Kronecker Delta property, so in this method it’s not possible to apply Dirichlet boundary conditions directly. The aim of the present paper is to discuss different aspects of three widely used methods o

3. Some characterization, uniqueness and existence results for euclidean graphs of constant mean curvature with planar boundary
We establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the cmc surface equation, including the minimal one, for zero boundary data, in certain domains of the plane. We obtain results that characterize the sphere and cmc graphs among compact embedded cmc surfaces with planar boundary satisfying certain geometric conditions. We als

4. Um estudo sobre a minimização de funcionais de expoente variável aplicados à restauração de imagens digitais / An study over the minimization of functionals of exponent variable applied to the restauration from digital images
A existência, unicidade e o comport

We study the behaviour of solutions for the nonlinear heat equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded subset of RN. We introduce the notion of weak solutions for this type of problem, and study the relation between such solutions and weak solutions for the associated stationary elliptic problem. Basic notions on Lebesgue spaces, Sobolev spaces,

6. Análise de sensibilidade topológica de segunda ordem / Second order topological sensitivity analysis
The topological derivative provides the sensitivity of a given shape functional with respect to an infinitesimal non-smooth domain pertubation (insertion of hole or inclusion, for instance). Classically, this derivative comes from the second term of the topological asymptotic expansion, dealing only with inifinitesimal pertubations. However, for pratical app

7. O efeito Casimir dinâmico e decoerência
In this thesis we first demonstrate that the inevitable action of the environment can be substantially weakened when considering appropriate nonstationary quantum systems. Beyond protecting quantum states against decoherence, an oscillating frequency can be engineered to make the system-reservoir coupling almost negligible. Differently from the program for e

Analysis and implementation of implicit and projection methods for free surface flows

9. Effects of varying curvature and width on the electronic states of GaAs quantum rings
Stationary states of an electron in thin GaAs elliptical quantum rings are calculated within the effective-mass approximation. The width of the ring varies smoothly along the centerline, which is an ellipse. The solutions of the Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions are approximated by a product of longitudinal and transversal wave functio

10. Numerical methods for the dynamics of unbounded domains
The present article discusses the relation between boundary conditions and the Sommerfeld radiation condition underlying the dynamics of unbounded domains. It is shown that the classical Dirichlet, Neumann and mixed boundary conditions do not fulfill the radiation condition. In the sequence, three strategies to incorporate the radiation condition in numerica

11. Casimir effect for a massive scalar field under mixed boundary conditions
We discuss the Casimir effect for a massive bosonic field with mixed (Dirichlet-Neumann) boundary conditions. We use the zeta-function regularization prescription to obtain our physical results. Particularly, we analyse how the Casimir energy varies with the mass of the field and compare this mass dependence with those obtained for other boundary conditions.

12. Boundary conditions as mass generation mechanism for real scalar fields
We consider the effects of homogeneous Dirichlet's boundary conditions on two infinite parallel plane surfaces separated by some small distance a. We find that although spontaneous symmetry breaking does not occur for the theory of a massless, quartically self-interacting real scalar field, the theory becomes a theory of a massive scalar field.
