1. Numerical analysis of collapse modes in optimized design of alveolar Steel-concrete composite beams via genetic algorithms
Abstract The objective of this study is to present the formulation and applications of the optimization problem of steel-concrete composite alveolar beams. In addition to presenting the formulation, a comparative analysis of the predominant collapse modes is performed numerically via the finite element method. The optimization program was developed with the

2. Matrix Damage Detection in Laminated Composite Structures by Discrete and Continuous Wavelet Transforms Using Vibration Modes
ABSTRACT: In this paper it was sought to enhance the potential damage detection, location and quantification of the Discrete and Continuous Wavelet Transforms in thin damaged laminated composite plates by a signal derived from vibration modes. To evaluate the ability of both transforms in the damage prognostic it was also proposed the use of Damage Indexes.

3. Pulmonary crackle characterization: approaches in the use of discrete wavelet transform regarding border effect, mother-wavelet selection, and subband reduction
Introduction Crackles are discontinuous, non-stationary respiratory sounds and can be characterized by their duration and frequency. In the literature, many techniques of filtering, feature extraction, and classification were presented. Although the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is a well-known tool in this area, issues like signal border extension, moth

4. Nonlinear Equilibrium and Stability Analysis of Axially Loaded Piles Under Bilateral Contact Constraints
AbstractThis paper presents a nonlinear stability analysis of piles under bilateral contact constraints imposed by a geological medium (soil or rock). To solve this contact problem, the paper proposes a general numerical methodology, based on the finite element method (FEM). In this context, a geometrically nonlinear beam-column element is used to model the

5. Sistemas de sensores ópticos baseados em fibra óptica de perfil-W dopada com Érbio / Optical sensing systems based on Erbium-doped W-fiber
Depressed-cladding (often referred to as dual-clad or "W"- fiber) fibers with fundamental-mode cutoffs provide high distributed losses at long wavelengths and low losses at short wavelengths. The magnitude of the abrupt transition between low-loss at short wavelengths and high-loss at long wavelengths exceeds 200 dB/km and is found to be extremely sensitive

6. Influence of physical and geometrical system parameters uncertainties on the nonlinear oscillations of cylindrical shells
This work investigates the influence of physical and geometrical system parameters uncertainties and excitation noise on the nonlinear vibrations and stability of simply-supported cylindrical shells. These parameters are composed of both deterministic and random terms. Donnell's non-linear shallow shell theory is used to study the non-linear vibrations of th

7. Perfis de espalhamento Raman ressonante em estruturas unidimensionais de carbono: cadeias lineares e nanotubos quiralmente enriquecidos
In resonant Raman scattering experiments using several laser lines, the intensity profile of the spectra as a function of the laser energy is related to the vibrational and electronic structure of the material. In this work, we have measured and interpreted the resonant Raman profiles for samples of chirality enriched single-walled carbon nanotube and for po

8. Fatores que influenciam na opção do modo de transporte de crianças para a escola
In the late years, the number of children who go to school by active modes of transport has decreased significantly. This fact causes several problems both in the area of urban transport (creating traffic congestions and accidents in the school neighborhood during the periods of starting and finishing classes) and in the area of public health (increasing the

9. NONLINEAR DYNAMICS, INSTABILITY AND CONTROL OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS WITH MODAL INTERACTION / DINÂMICA NÃO-LINEAR, INSTABILIDADE E CONTROLE DE SISTEMAS ESTRUTURAIS COM INTERAÇÃO MODAL
The aim of this thesis is to study the influence of coupled buckling modes on the static and particularly on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of structural components liable to buckling. For this, two discrete two degrees of freedom models known for their complex nonlinear behavior are selected: the well-known Augusti¿s model and a simplified model of cable-s

10. Comparison of different identification techniques of vertical structural dynamics of twin-wheeled telescopic landing gear.
The main purpose of this work is to model dynamically the latero-torsional response of the structure of a landing gear using identification techniques. The emphasis is placed on identifying this motion on aircraft twin-wheeled telescopic main landing gears. Between the many possible model structures, a linear polynomial ARX and ARMAX model structures and a s

11. Analise e geração de emaranhamento em sistemas de variaveis discreta e continua via atomos / Analysis and generation of entanglement in systems of continuous and discrete variables via atoms
In this thesis, we present two results of entanglement generation, both involving atom-radiation interaction. In the first part, we consider a scheme for generation of entangled states involving electronic states of two distant ions, each one placed in a cavity. A flying atom, that crosses these cavities, is responsible for the generation of entangled states

12. Stability of Semidiscrete Formulations For Advective-Diffusive-Reactive Transport Problems / Estabilidade temporal de formulações semi-discretas para problemas de transporte convectivo-difusivo-reativo
This work deals with the stability analysis of the fully discrete transport problem obtained using a stable finite element method in space and the generalized trapeizoidal family of methods in time. Depeding on the range of parameters the Galerkin and the Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin Methods are introduced. We evaluate the accuracy and stability propert
