1. CaracterizaÃÃo das vias neuro-humorais no retarde do esvaziamento gÃstrico de lÃquidos advindo da distensÃo mecÃnica atrial direita em ratos acordados. / Characterization of neuro-humoral pathways involved in delayed gastric emptying of liquids due to mechanical right atrial stretch in awake rats.
Right atrium mechanical stretch (AS) increases gastric motility in anesthetized rats. We aimed to study the effect of AS on gastric emptying (GE) in awake rats and the related neuro-humoral pathways ivolved. Male albino rats (N=361, 250-280g) had a silicone balloon inserted in the right atrium. After 24-h, the central venous pressure (CVP), heart rate (HR) a

3. Inhibitory properties of double-helix-forming circular oligonucleotides.
Several circular oligonucleotides were synthesized and characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. Experiments on termination of primer extension catalysed by DNA polymerases, Klenow fragment and Tth have demonstrated that a double helix forming circular 2'-deoxyribooligomer containing a 25mer sequence complementary to the target single-stran

4. Site directed in-vitro assembly of nucleosomes.
An in-vitro system is described allowing for the assembly of nucleosomes on preselected sites of a cloned tRNA gene. The system consists of a soluble nucleoprotein fraction, a histone source, and circular DNA containing a single stranded stretch (sssDNA). Nucleosomes assemble on the sssDNA, if the three components are incubated as a highly concentrated solut

5. The polyadenylation signal of influenza virus RNA involves a stretch of uridines followed by the RNA duplex of the panhandle structure.
Appropriate RNAs are transcribed and amplified and proteins are expressed after transfection into cells of in vitro-reconstituted RNA-protein complexes and infection with influenza virus as the helper. This system permits us to study the signals involved in transcription of influenza virus RNAs. For the analysis we used a plasmid-derived RNA containing the r

6. Electromyographic study of the ragidospasticity of athetosis
The static and dynamic components of the tonic stretch reflex and shortening reactions have been studied in 10 patients with athetosis. EMG activity could be recorded only from the biceps muscle when the patient was at rest. The dynamic stretch reflex increased with the velocity of stretching in all muscles examined except the biceps. The biceps stretch refl

7. The nucleotide sequence of the very low density lipoprotein II mRNA from chicken.
The nucleotide sequence of an almost complete, double-stranded cDNA of chicken Very Low Density Lipoprotein II mRNA, carried in recombinant plasmid pVLDLII 3.33 (Wieringa et al., 1979, 7: 2147-2163) is presented. A stretch of 318 nucleotides codes for the pre-VLDLII polypeptide, which consists of a 24 amino acids signal and a 82 amino acids secreted protein.

8. Double-blind comparison of single doses of DS103-282, baclofen and placebo for suppression of spasticity.
Twelve spastic patients received single oral doses of a new anti-spastic drug DS103-282 (Sandoz) 6 mg, baclofen 20 mg, and placebo on three separate days. Passive stretch responses were measured before administration and for four hours afterwards. DS103-282 was more effective than baclofen, and both drugs were more effective than placebo. Analysis of the rec

9. Voltage-induced slow activation and deactivation of mechanosensitive channels in Xenopus oocytes.
1. The relationship between stretch and voltage activation of mechanosensitive (MS) channels from Xenopus oocytes was studied in excised patches of membrane using the patch clamp technique. 2. As is characteristic of MS channels to oocytes, stretching the membrane by applying negative pressure to the patch pipette at -50 mV activated the MS channels rapidly.

10. Cross-bridge detachment and attachment following a step stretch imposed on active single frog muscle fibres.
1. The time course of cross-bridge detachment-attachment following a step stretch was determined in single frog muscle fibres (at 4 degrees (1 and 2.1 microns sarcomere length) by imposing, under sarcomere length control by a striation follower, test step releases of various amplitudes (2-13 nm per half-sarcomere) at successive times (4-55 ms) after a condit

11. Herpes simplex virus type 1 variant a sequence generated by recombination and breakage of the a sequence in defined regions, including the one involved in recombination.
A herpes simplex virus type 1 clone, GN29, having exclusively the variant a sequence was isolated. This a sequence was composed of unique (U) and directly repeated (DR) elements DR1, Ub, (DR2)14, Ucd, Ubd, (DR2)5, DR4n2, and Uc and was assumed to be generated by recombination between sites in Ub and Uc. Unusual DNA fragments containing parts of the a sequenc

12. Structure of the orgin of DNA replication of bacteriophage fd.
An RNA-polymerase-protected DNA fragment of 125 nucleotides from the origin of single-strand to double-strand replication of bacteriophage fd (ori-DNA) was located on the physical map of the phage genome. A stretch of 187 base pairs of DNA including the ori-DNA was sequenced. This DNA segment contains regions with a highly asymmetric pyrimidine/purine distri
