1. MINI-CUTTING TECHNIQUE FOR VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION OF Paratecoma peroba
ABSTRACT Paratecoma peroba is a native Brazilian forest species of great economic and ecological interest, which is currently at risk of extinction owing to excessive wood exploration. The use of the mini-cutting technique could facilitate the vegetatively propagation of this species. The objective of the present study was to establish a vegetative propagati

2. Ecological significance of wood anatomy of Alseis pickelii Pilg. & Schmale (Rubiaceae) in a Tropical Dry Forest
This work describes, analyzes and compares the wood anatomy of Alseis pickelii from two distinct sites in Tropical Dry Forest. One site is an exploited forest that was disturbed by deforestation whereas the other site is preserved and has not been logged since selective logging in the 1960's. For the evaluation of wood anatomy, plant material was processed f

Terrestrial ecosystems, solitary bees and wasps play important roles as pollinators, predators and parasites. Most part of the life of these Hymenoptera is designed to aspects related to nesting, including the search of the nest site, nest construction and food collection to rear the larvae. However, in natural environments the nests of these insects are dif

4. Wood biomass of one gallery forest.
On a study in a gallery forest at the small stream Dos Macacos situated at Santo Antonio do Descoberto, GO, Brazil, an area of one hectare was analysed. On 1.741 trees the wood volume with bark and the dry wood biomass of stems and branches was determined for trees with a DBH greater than 5 cm. 117 species were identified. The total volume was 181,996 m3/ha

6. Avaliação do efeito de borda sobre a vegetação do cerrado stricto sensu inserido em matriz de pastagem / Edge effects on plant community of cerrado sensu stricto inserted into a matrix of pasture
From the Brazilian biomes, the Cerrado has been the most widely and rapidly converted to agribusiness in recent years. The expansion of agricultural frontier over the Cerrado domain resulted in thousands of small fragments embedded in matrices of low similarity, causing a series of negative impacts on the natural ecosystem. Habitat fragmentation is considere

We analyzed the effect of fragmentation on ant species-area and specimen frequency-area relationships in nine patches of tropical dry forest in the middle Cauca river basin in Colombia. Species richness and specimen relative frequency of ants were positively correlated with area, whereas no significant correlation was found between species richness and the d

9. Madeiras do agreste para uso em habitação / Wood of the agreste for use in house
In Brazil, the biggest study centers of wood species are located in the south and southeast regions. A brief study to reconnaissance of the area has been done. This dissertation discusses the possibilities and the development of wood species studies in the brazilian northeast with the purpose of being used in habitation. A technological study to characterize

Four fragments of riparian forests have been studied, each with different soil types, in the western region of São Paulo State, Brazil. Three of these are fragments of formerly continuous semideciduous forest. The fourth fragment is in "cerrado" domain. Floristic composition, phytosociology and litter productionwere studied. Botanical collectionsbegan in 19

Several lines of evidence suggest that the variation in Cerrado physiognomy is determined and maintained by fire. The objective of this study was to determine and describe pattems indicating that after 19 yr of fire protection, the Cerrado vegetation developed to a high density and cover mature vegetation. The hypothesis of this study was that protected Cerr
