1. Assessment of Total Attenuation and Adaptive Scheme for Quality of Service Enhancement in Tropical Weather for Satellite Networks and 5G Applications in Nigeria
Abstract The dynamic weather condition is a major concern for optimum channel utilization in recent times, especially at higher frequencies with larger bandwidth for 5G applications. Over the years, rain-induced attenuation among the hydrometeors has been linked as the major cause of signal impairment especially at the frequency, f ≥ 10 GHz. However, when

2. Analysis of a tuned liquid column damper in non-linear structures subjected to seismic excitations
Abstract The behavior of the tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) is analyzed in the control of non-linear structures subjected to random seismic excitations. The structure is modeled as a system of one degree of freedom with incursion in the non-linear range. The Bouc-Wen hysteretic model is used to model the non-linear behavior of the structure. A stationary

3. COST-EFFECTIVE BANDWIDTH PROVISIONING IN MICROWAVE WIRELESS NETWORKS UNDER UNRELIABLE CHANNEL CONDITIONS
ABSTRACT Cost-effective planning and dimensioning of backhaul microwave networks under unreliable channel conditions remains a relatively underexplored area in the literature. In particular, bandwidth assignment requires special attention as the transport capacity of microwave links is prone to variations due to, e.g., weather conditions. In this paper, we f

4. An improved UWB Patch Antenna Design using Multiple Notches and Finite Ground Plane
AbstractAn UWB antenna design with finite ground plane approach and multiple notches is reported. The antenna design provided a 10 dB bandwidth in excess of 8 GHz with better return loss characteristics. The antenna implemented in FR4 substrate, is compact and cost effective. The measured antenna parameters are in agreement with simulation.

5. MODELAGEM E CONTROLE DE UM REATOR ELETRÔNICO PARA LÂMPADAS HPS BASEADO NA CONEXÃO DIFERENCIAL DE CONVERSORES CC / MODELING AND CONTROL OF AN ELECTRONIC BALLAST FOR HPS LAMPS BASED ON DIFFERENTIAL CONNECTION OF DC CONVERTERS
This paper presents the development of an electronic ballast for high intensity discharge lamps, using the differential connection technique applied to Flyback converters. The power factor correction stage was implemented by a Buck-Boost converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode. Subsequently, the integrating converters technique was used to simpl

6. 4iPay : modelo para sistemas de pagamento móvel em comércio ubíquo
This work aims at presenting a usability and architectural model for a mobile payment system. In our model, we assume independence of devices, of location, of mobile operator, and of administrator, to allow all kinds of payment in ubiquitous environments (Ubiquitous Commerce). In this work, we begin describing motivation, goals, and fundamental concepts, in

7. Inversão sísmica para impedância acústica na caracterização de reservatórios : impacto da extração da wavelet e do aumento da banda de frequências / Seismic inversion to acoustic impedance in reservoir caracterization : the impact of wavelet extraction and increase the frequency band
The substrates that constitute a reservoir are identified using seismic data. The process consists of determining reservoir petrophysical properties. However, sub-seismic layers structures are masked due to the limitation of conventional seismic data. The failure provided by these data produces an erroneous model of reservoir. The lack of vertical resolution

8. Transmission of a 20 Gb/s NRZ OOK signal throughout a 390 km fiber link and a cascade of 11 x 50 GHz filters and 9 x EDFAs
This paper presents a qualitative analysis of the impact caused by fiber propagation effects and by a cascade of optical filters, designed for 10 Gb/s NRZ OOK transmission, and optical amplifiers on a 20 Gb/s NRZ OOK optical signal traveling a 390 km fiber link. The choice for such bit rate and modulation format has been driven by the 50 GHz bandwidth of the

10. Contribuições ao calculo de banda e de probabilidade de perda para trafego multifractal de redes / Contributions to the effective bandwidth and loss probability computing for multifractal network traffic
Multifractal modeling generalizes the existing traffic models and is believed to be appropriate to describe the characteristics of traffic flows of modern communication networks. This thesis investigates some novel approaches for bandwidth allocation, traffic prediction and byte loss probability estimation, by considering the multifractal characteristics of

12. Architecture and implementation of a topological information and traffic engineering service to RWA systems / Arquitetura e implementação de um serviço de informações topologicas e de engenharia de trafego para sistemas RWA
GMPLS-controlled all-optical networks are the promise to handle the increasing volume of IP traffic. The GMPLS routing and signaling protocols, mainly OSPF and RSVP, work in such a way that the route calculation for optical circuits does not take into account the wavelength (label) availability. This is not optimal in terms of network resources usage and blo
