1. Sulfane sulfur deficiency in malignant cells, increasing the inhibiting action of acetone cyanohydrin in tumor growth
PURPOSE: To demonstrate the irreversible poisoning action of the acetone cyanohydrin (AC) in malignant cells. METHODS: Thirty male Swiss mice were inoculated with 1x10³ Ehrlich tumor (ET) cells. The mice were divided into three groups (n=10): CG (saline); ACG1 (1.864 mg/Kg of AC) and ACG2 (2.796 mg/Kg of AC), treated every 48 hours from day 3 until day 13.

2. Conus vexillum venom induces oxidative stress in Ehrlich's ascites carcinoma cells: an insight into the mechanism of induction
Background It is estimated that venoms of marine cone snails (genus Conus) contain more than 100,000 different small peptides with a wide range of pharmacological and biological actions. Some of these peptides were developed into potential therapeutic agents and as molecular tools to understand biological functions of nervous and cardiovascular systems. In

3. Mimosine and cyclophosphamide: a potential new combination therapy used to prevent tumor development
The effects of mimosine (MI), which is an amino acid that is derived from Leucaena leucocephala, were evaluated on the growth of ascitic Ehrlich tumors, and the effects of the combination treatment of MI and cyclophosphamide (CY) on tumor growth were also assessed. Mice were divided into groups that received the following treatments over the course of 20 day

5. Investigação da mielotoxicidade e do potencial indutor de morte celular de Synadenium umbellatum Pax. em células do tumor ascítico de Ehrlich / Investigation of myelotoxicity and potential inducer cell death of Synadenium umbellatum Pax. cell Ehrlich ascites tumor
In search of new antineoplasic agents natural products have played an important role, given that about 40% of available medicines in current treatments have been developed from natural sources, 25% approximately of plants. Synadenium umbellatum belongs to Euphorbiaceae family and is popularly known as "cola-nota", "avelós," "milagrosa", "cancerola", and the

6. Possíveis efeitos antineoplásicos e mieloprotetores da Ipomoea carnea e de seu princípio ativo, a suainsonina, em camundongos / Possible antineoplastic and mieloprotective effects of Ipomoea carnea and its active principle swainsonine in mice
Ipomoea carnea is a toxic plant widely distributed in Brazil and other tropical countries. Among its active principles I. carnea has the indolizidine alkaloid swainsonine, which inhibits intracellular enzymes (the lysosomal α-mannosidase and the Golgi mannosidase II) and alters membrane receptors and adhesion molecules. It is known that swainsonine pre

7. Cytotoxicity and antitumoral activity of dichloromethane extract and its fractions from Pothomorphe umbellata
The cytotoxicity of the dichloromethane crude extract (DCE), obtained from the aerial parts of Pothomorphe umbellata (L.) Miq (Piperaceae), was evaluated against nine human cancer cell lines (MCF-7, NCI-ADR/RES, OVCAR-3, PC-3, HT-29, NCI-H460, 786-O, UACC-62, K-562). The DCE presented antiproliferative activity with good potency against all cell lines at low

8. Atividade imunomoduladora da alga Chlorella vulgaris em camundongos portadores de tumos ascitico de Ehrlich / Immunolmodulatory activity of the alga Chlorella vulgaris in Ehrlich ascites tumor bearing mice
Chlorella vulgaris (CV) is a microscopic alga rich in nutrients. Besides the high nutritive value, this alga has shown important therapeutic properties. Many studies from our laboratory and others have shown the protective effects of CV against viral and bacterial infections, tumors, among others. In this work we evaluated the effects of the prophylactic/the

9. Citotoxicity and immune response induced by organopalladium(II) compounds in mice bearing Ehrlich ascites tumour

11. Avaliação dos efeitos do extrato etanólico, resíduo butanólico e resíduo aquoso de Pfaffia paniculata sobre o crescimento do tumor de Ehrlich em suas formas ascítica e sólida / Evaluation of effects of the ethanolic extract, butanolic residue and aqueous residue of Pfaffia paniculata on the development of Ehrlich tumor in its ascitic and solid forms
The roots of Pfaffia paniculata have been popularly used for various purposes, as well as an adjuvant for cancer therapy. Recently we have shown that the powdered roots of Pfaffia paniculata promote an attenuation of the Ehrlich tumor growth in its ascitic form. The aims of the present study were to characterize the effects of the ethanolic extract, aqueous

Every year, thousands of new cases of cancer appear all around the world in human beings. In Brazil around 460.000 are notified every year. In the veterinary medicine an increase of the cases of neoplasics has been noted, mainly among the pets, due to elevation of the expectative of life in dogs and cats. These aspects show the necessity to study and to impl
