1. A Physical Study to Explain Response Differences between the BID and FID Detectors for PAHs and Pesticides
The dielectric barrier discharge ionization detector (BID) is one of the most modern detectors commercially available for gas chromatography (GC). Its technology based on the sample ionization through the energy released from the helium plasma generation process gives it the ability to act as a universal detector and a greater response to various types of co

2. New Insights into the Partitioning of Phenothiazine Dyes in Aqueous Two-Phase Systems
Aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) have proven to be efficient and environmentally safe methods for extracting chemical species. However, the driving forces behind the partition of solutes in these systems are still little understood. A complete thermodynamic partitioning of phenothiazine dyes was investigated in poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) + salt + water ATPS

3. Kinetic parameters study for the slow pyrolysis of coffee residues based on thermogravimetric analysis
Thermal decomposition of coffee husks was investigated by thermogravimetric analyses. The proximate, ultimate and composition analyses were performed. Thermogravimetric tests were realized, the material was heated to 1173 K using five heating rates: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 K min-1. The kinetic parameters were estimated using the methods of Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose

5. Quantitative analysis of the applicability limits of the model of a one-dimensional infinite square well
Abstract We discuss the influence of several factors on the deviations from energy spectrum of an infinite square quantum well (QW) for real microscopic systems that can be approximately modelled using particle in a box. We introduce the “blurring” potential in the form of the modified Woods-Saxon potential and solve the corresponding Schrödinger equati

6. Thermal Stability and Kinetic of Decomposition of Mono- and Dicationic Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids
Phase transitions, thermal stability, thermokinetics and activation parameters of degradation reaction of the dicationic ionic liquids (ILs), 1,n-bis(3-methylimidazolium-1-yl)alkane ([BisAlk(MIM)2][2Br]) and monocationic ILs, 1-(3-methylimidazolium-1-yl)alkane ([Alk(MIM)][Br]), where Alk = Dec, DoDec, TetDec, (decane, dodecane, tetradecane) were evaluated. 7. Mapping Three-dimensional Moisture Content of Wood Chip Piles for Energy Production
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to apply geostatistics to predict the spatial pattern of variations in moisture content of eucalyptus wood chip piles to generate subsidies for adequate sampling and material handling. Wood chip piles were installed in three different storage cycles using newly cut material for 7, 30, and 60 days. Sampling was performed in

11. Rheological behavior of concentrated tucupi
Abstract Tucupi, which is widely enjoyed in the North region of Brazil, is a fermented liquid derived from cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) and has been taken abroad for its exotic characteristics. This study aimed to assess the rheological behavior of tucupi with 30, 35, and 40% solids and concentrated at 50, 70, and 90 °C. The rheological data were obt

12. Photoacoustic-based thermal image formation and optimization using an evolutionary genetic algorithm
Abstract Introduction For improved efficiency and security in heat application during hyperthermia, it is important to monitor tissue temperature during treatments. Photoacoustic (PA) pressure wave amplitude has a temperature dependence given by the Gruenesein parameter. Consequently, changes in PA signal amplitude carry information about temperature varia
