1. Efeitos farmacolÃgicos da Esculina em modelos animais de lesÃo gÃstrica e possÃveis mecanismos envolvidos. / Pharmacologicals effects of the esculin in animal models of gastric injury and possible machanisms involved.
Est

2. Molecular typing and pathogenic potential characterization of Yersinia enterocolitica biotype 1A strains of diverse origins. / Tipagem molecular e caracterização do potencial patogênico de linhagens de Yersinia enterocolitica biotipo 1A de origens diversas
Among the 12 species of the genus Yersinia, Yersinia enterocolitica is the most prevalent cause of illness in humans and animals. Among other characteristics, its patogenicity is related to six biotypes: 1B and 2 to 5 considered pathogenic and the 1A biotype considered non-pathogenic. Despite being defined as non-pathogenic, literature has been shown that bi

3. PREVALÊNCIA E PERFIL DE SUSCEPTIBILIDADE A DROGAS DE STREPTOCOCUS AGALACTIAE EM PARTURIENTES DO SUS, ATENDIDAS EM UMA MATERNIDADE DE JUIZ DE FORA / PREVALÊNCIA E PERFIL DE SUSCEPTIBILIDADE A DROGAS DE STREPTOCOCUS AGALACTIAE EM PARTURIENTES DO SUS, ATENDIDAS EM UMA MATERNIDADE DE JUIZ DE FORA
Streptococcus agalactiae or Group B of Lancefield (GBS) can be part of the microbiota of the human beings, colonizing especially the gastrointestinal and the genitourinary tract. Its medical importance is associated to the transmission to neonates during the delivery, which can result in severe infection. The prevalence of the GBS among pregnant women ranges

5. Esculin hydrolysis by Enterobacteriaceae.
Literature reports disagree concerning esculin hydrolysis in the family Enterobacteriaceae. A total of 2,490 strains of the family were investigated for esculin hydrolysis by two methods, the esculin spot test and the PathoTec incubation strip, which measures constitutive enzyme, and five growth-supporting methods, which determine both constitutive and induc

6. Rapid test for determination of esculin hydrolysis.
An esculin hydrolysis test is described which distinguishes over 97% of bacteria that can convert esculin to esculetin in a buffered solution, from those that cannot, within an hour.

7. Esculin hydrolysis reaction by Escherichia coli.
The literature contains variable reports concerning the hydrolysis of esculin by members of the family Enterobacteriaceae and particularly Escherichia coli. We examined 113 strains of fresh clinical isolates of E. coli and assessed the ability of colonies in a population to hydrolyze esculin with and without preincubation in inducible substrates at 24, 48, a

8. Suicide phenomenon in mesophilic aeromonads as a basis for species identification.
The acetic acid-mediated suicide phenomenon in mesophilic aeromonads in conjunction with tests for aerogenicity and esculin hydrolysis served as the basis for species identification. Of 210 Aeromonas isolates tested at 30 degrees C, 88 were identified as Aeromonas hydrophila (nonsuicidal, aerogenic, esculin positive), 52 were identified as A. sobria (suicide

9. Rapid spot test for the determination of esculin hydrolysis.
Esculin hydrolysis is a useful test in the differentiation of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria covering a wide spectrum of aerobes, facultative anaerobes, and anaerobes. Commonly utilized methods require a minimum of 18 h of incubation in broth or agar medium and utilize the production of a brown-black compound, due to the combination of ferric

10. Esculin-based medium for isolation and identification of Cryptococcus neoformans.
A simple medium was developed, using esculin as the substrate, for the isolation and identification of Cryptococcus neoformans. C. neoformans produced a brown-black pigment on the medium; all other yeasts produced no pigment or were light yellow. Esculin is beta-glucose-6,7-dihydroxycoumarin. C. neoformans produced pigment because the 6,7-dihydroxycoumarin c

11. Detection of β-Glucosidase Activity in Polyacrylamide Gels with Esculin as Substrate
β-Glucosidase can be located after nondenaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis by incubating the gel with 0.1% esculin and 0.03% ferric chloride. The esculetin released from esculin by β-glucosidase action reacts with ferric ion to produce a black band, corresponding to the β-glucosidase, against the transparent background.

12. Use of bile-esculin agar for rapid differentiation of Enterobacteriaceae.
Bile-esculin agar has been used for several years for the presumptive identification of group D streptococci. All members of the Enterobacteriaceae family will also grow on this medium, but only certain ones can hydrolyze esculin to 6,7-dihydroxycoumarin, which reacts with iron to produce a characteristic blackening of the medium. One thousand and six cultur
