1. Assessment of Covariance Selection Methods in High-Dimensional Gaussian Graphical Models
ABSTRACT The covariance selection in Gaussian graphical models consists in selecting, based on a sample of a multivariate normal vector, all those pairs of variables that are conditionally dependent given the remaining variables. This problem is equivalent to estimate the graph identifying the nonzero elements on the off-diagonal entries of the precision mat

2. Efficient Low-Complexity Optimized Channel Estimating Methods for OFDM-Based Low-Voltage Broadband Power Line Communication Systems
Abstract Broadband Power Line Communication (BB-PLC) technology enables data transmission for smart grid applications. Nevertheless, channel equalizers are required in the receiver to estimate and compensate for the nonlinear time-variant impulse response and noise interference effects introduced by the BB-PLC channel. In this paper, we append the Particle S

3. Testing the consumption-based CAPM using the stochastic discount factor
Abstract This article investigates the problem of optimal intertemporal consumption in the CCAPM setup from a new empirical perspective. The econometric analysis is based on use of the equality between the stochastic discount factor (SDF) and the marginal rate of intertemporal substitution of consumption, which in the CCAPM is equivalent to the Euler equatio

4. Evaluation of moisture content variation on strength and stiffness properties of Cedrella sp. wood specie
Abstract In order to evaluate the influence of moisture content on wood physical and mechanical properties, the present research analyzed the influence of moisture content variation on Cedrella sp. on 12 strength and stiffness properties, considering 12% moisture content up to Fiber Saturation Point (FSP) were considered. Brazilian Standard consider a correc

5. Mathematical Analysis and Improvement of the Maximum Spatial Eigenfilter for Direction of Arrival Estimation
Abstract Maximum spatial eigenfiltering improves the accuracy of maximum likelihood direction-of-arrival estimators for closely-spaced signal sources but may interchangeably attenuate widely-spaced signal sources, producing a severe performance degradation. Although this behavior has been observed experimentally, it still lacks a mathematical explanation. In

6. Estimating Poisson pseudo-maximum-likelihood rather than log-linear model of a log-transformed dependent variable
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study is to account for a recent non-mainstream econometric approach using microdata and how it can inform research in business administration. More specifically, the paper draws from the applied microeconometric literature stances in favor of fitting Poisson regression with robust standard errors rather than the OLS lin

7. Microsatellites for detecting inconsistencies in Capsicum cultivars registration in Brazilian database: more than meets the eye

8. Fish fauna from the Paranapanema River basin, Brazil

9. Mollusk bycatch in trawl fisheries targeting the Atlantic seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri on the coast of Sergipe, northeastern Brazil
Abstract The malacofauna bycatch of sea-bob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862) trawl fisheries on the coast of Sergipe was studied for 5 years. The malacofauna bycatch considered was obtained in nine oceanographic sampling campaigns carried out between May 1999 and June 2003 in 18 stations distributed in six transects along depths of 10, 20 and 30 m.

10. Application of the Respondent-Driven Sampling methodology in a biological and behavioral surveillance survey among female sex workers, Brazil, 2016

12. Improved Bayes estimators and prediction for the Wilson-Hilferty distribution
Abstract: In this paper, we revisit the Wilson-Hilferty distribution and presented its mathematical properties such as the r-th moments and reliability properties. The parameters estimators are discussed using objective reference Bayesian analysis for both complete and censored data where the resulting marginal posterior intervals have accurate frequentist c
