1. Comparative analysis of butter thermal behavior in combination with bovine tallow
Abstract Assessment of butter authenticity in combination with animal fat is a major challenge. Changing the butter composition can affect crystallization and polymorphism properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the thermal behavior of butter combined with (0-15% w/w) bovine tallow using Digital Calorimetric Scanning, and to determine fatty aci

2. Optimization of self-nanoemulsifying formulations for weakly basic lipophilic drugs: role of acidification and experimental design
ABSTRACT Formulators face great challenges in adopting systematic approaches for designing self-nanoemulsifying formulations (SNEFs) for different drug categories. In this study, we aimed to build-up an advanced SNEF development framework for weakly basic lipophilic drugs, such as cinnarizine (CN). First, the influence of formulation acidification on CN solu

3. Estudo de espalhamento Raman nos Ãcidos palmÃtico e esteÃrico: forma C / Study from Raman scattering in the palmitic and stearic acids: C form

PPARs (peroxisome proliferator activated receptors) are nuclear receptors that regulate glucose and fat metabolism, adipogenesis and macrophage polarization and mediate actions of a major class of drugs that are used to treat type 2 diabetes, the thiazolidinediones. While TZDs reduce blood glucose and improve insulin sensitivity effectively, they can also ex

5. Characterization and selection of seed fats of the genus Theobroma for technological application / Caracterização e seleção de gorduras de sementes do genero Theobroma para aplicação tecnologica
The genus Theobroma belongs to Sterculiaceae family. The 22 Theobroma species are restricted to Tropical America. The nine species occurring in Brazil restricted to the Amazon basin are: T. grandiflorum, T. obovatum, T. subincanun, T. camagoanum, T. speciosum, T. sy/vestre, T. microcarpum, T. bic%r and T. cacao. Ali of them are present in the rainforest, pro

6. Synthesis of structured lipids obtain from interesterification reaction of medium and long chain tryacylglicerols. / Obtenção de lipídios estruturados por interesterificação de triacilgliceróis de cadeia média e longa.
Structured lipids are compounds that can be synthesized by blending followed interesterification of fats and oils. These compounds, formed by rearrangement of medium and long chain tryacylglicerols show physical, chemical and nutritional characteristics different from the original lipids. They can also be considered nutraceuticals because of their potent

7. Fatty crystals in sclerema neonatorum
The fatty crystals in three previously published cases of sclerema neonatorum were identified by means of x-ray diffraction as sodium stearate and palmitic acid. A composite view of the pathogenesis of both sclerema neonatorum and adiponecrosis cutis neonatorum is discussed.

8. CRYSTALLIZATION OF A MULTIENZYME COMPLEX: FATTY ACID SYNTHETASE FROM YEAST
The crystallization of purified fatty acid synthetase from yeast is facilitated by seeding techniques. The first seed crystals appeared as particles with almost negligible enzymatic activity in a solution that had been left at 4°C for 15 months. Subsequently, the crystallization time has been reduced to two days, and the crystals now isolated have retained

9. Epicuticular Wax Accumulation and Fatty Acid Elongation Activities Are Induced during Leaf Development of Leeks1
Epicuticular wax production was evaluated along the length of expanding leek (Allium porrum L.) leaves to gain insight into the regulation of wax production. Leaf segments from the bottom to the top were analyzed for (a) wax composition and load; (b) microsomal fatty acid elongase, plastidial fatty acid synthase, and acyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) thi

10. Production of 10-Ketostearic Acid from Oleic Acid by Flavobacterium sp. Strain DS5 (NRRL B-14859)
A microbial isolate, Flavobacterium sp. strain DS5, produces 10-ketostearic acid (10-KSA) from oleic acid in 85% yield. This is the first report on this type of reaction catalyzed by a Flavobacterium strain. The product was purified to give white, plate-like crystals melting at 79.2°C. The optimum time, pH, and temperature for the production of 10-KSA are 3

11. Lipid droplets in atherosclerotic fatty streaks of human aorta
Preparations of lipid droplets and droplet-free tissue residue (cytoplasm + membranes + nuclei) were obtained by homogenization and centrifugal separation from intimal fatty streak lesions of aortic atherosclerosis of 21 adults who had died suddenly. Neutral lipids and phospholipids were analyzed by quantitative thin-layer chromatography and cholesteryl este

12. CUT1, an Arabidopsis gene required for cuticular wax biosynthesis and pollen fertility, encodes a very-long-chain fatty acid condensing enzyme.
Land plants secrete a layer of wax onto their aerial surfaces that is essential for survival in a terrestrial environment. This wax is composed of long-chain, aliphatic hydrocarbons derived from very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). Using the Arabidopsis expressed sequence tag database, we have identified a gene, designated CUT1, that encodes a VLCFA condens
