1. STATE ESTIMATION AND TRAJECTORY TRACKING CONTROL FOR A NONLINEAR AND MULTIVARIABLE BIOETHANOL PRODUCTION SYSTEM
ABSTRACT In this paper a controller is proposed based on linear algebra for a fed-batch bioethanol production process. It involves finding feed rate profiles (control actions obtained as a solution of a linear equations system) in order to make the system follow predefined concentration profiles. A neural network states estimation is designed in order to kno

2. Comparing a Dynamic Fed-Batch and a Continuous Steady-State Simulation of Ethanol Fermentation in a Distillery to a Stoichiometric Conversion Simulation
Abstract An autonomous sugarcane bioethanol plant was simulated in EMSO software, an equation oriented process simulator. Three types of fermentation units were simulated: a six parallel fed-batch reactor system, a set of four CSTR in steady state and one consisting of a single stoichiometric reactor. Stoichiometric models are less accurate than kinetic-base

3. AnSBBR applied to biomethane production for vinasse treatment: effects of organic loading, feed strategy and temperature
Abstract This study assessed the feasibility of an anaerobic sequencing batch and fed-batch biofilm reactor (AnSBBR) with mechanical stirring for vinasse treatment and biomethane production. The amount of liquid medium used was 3 L, and the treated volume was 1 L per cycle. The cycle time was 8 h, with feeding times of 10 min (batch mode) and 240 min (fed-ba

4. Cassava processing wastewater as a platform for third generation biodiesel production
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate third generation biodiesel production by microalgae Phormidium autumnale using cassava processing wastewater as a platform. Experiments were performed in a heterotrophic bubble column bioreactor. The study focused on the evaluation of the bioreactor (batch and fed-batch) of different operational modes and the analysis of

5. Development of Fed-Batch Cultivation Strategy for Efficient Oxytetracycline Production by Streptomyces rimosus at Semi-Industrial Scale
ABSTRACTOxytetracycline (OTC) production byStreptomyces rimosus was studied in batch and fed-batch cultures in shake flask and bioreactor levels using semi-defined medium. First, the effect of glucose concentration on OTC production and growth kinetics was studied intensively. The optimal glucose concentration in the medium was 15 g/L. Higher glucose concent

6. GROWTH AND COMPOSITION OF Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis IN A TUBULAR PHOTOBIOREACTOR USING AMMONIUM NITRATE AS THE NITROGEN SOURCE IN A FED-BATCH PROCESS
AbstractNH4NO3 simultaneously provides a readily assimilable nitrogen source (ammonia) and a reserve of nitrogen (nitrate), allowing for an increase in Arthrospira platensis biomass production while reducing the cost of the cultivation medium. In this study, a 22plus star central composite experimental design combined with response surface methodology was em

7. BIOHYDROGEN FROM CHEESE WHEY TREATMENT IN AN AnSBBR: ACHIEVING PROCESS STABILITY
AbstractAn AnSBBR (anaerobic sequencing batch reactor containing biomass immobilized on an inert support) with liquid phase recirculation, containing a 3.5 L working volume, treated 1.5 L of cheese whey wastewater in 3 and 4 h cycles at 30 ºC to produce biohydrogen. From startup the bioreactor presented process instability. To overcome this problem the foll

8. Modeling of an industrial process of pleuromutilin fermentation using feed-forward neural networks
This work investigates the use of artificial neural networks in modeling an industrial fermentation process of Pleuromutilin produced by Pleurotus mutilus in a fed-batch mode. Three feed-forward neural network models characterized by a similar structure (five neurons in the input layer, one hidden layer and one neuron in the output layer) are constructed and

9. Yeast biomass production: a new approach in glucose-limited feeding strategy
The aim of this work was to implement experimentally a simple glucose-limited feeding strategy for yeast biomass production in a bubble column reactor based on a spreadsheet simulator suitable for industrial application. In biomass production process using Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains, one of the constraints is the strong tendency of these species to met

12. Production of pullulan by a thermotolerant Aureobasidium pullulans strain in non-stirred fed batch fermentation process
Total 95 isolates of Aureobasidium pullulans were isolated from different flowers and leaves samples, out of which 11 thermotolerant strains produced pullulan. One thermotolerant non-melanin pullulan producing strain, designated as RG-5, produced highest pullulan (37.1±1.0 g/l) at 42ºC, pH 5.5 in 48h of incubation with 3% sucrose and 0.5% ammonium sulphate
