1. Comparative vegetative anatomy of Neotropical Goodyerinae Klotzsch (Orchidaceae Juss.: Orchidoideae Lindl.)
ABSTRACT The Neotropical genera Aspidogyne and Microchilus (Goodyerinae, Cranichideae, Orchidaceae) comprise ca. 200 rainforests terrestrial species. Although species of Goodyerinae are described with similar anatomy to other taxa of Cranichideae, some anatomical characteristics appear to be specific to the subtribe. Our goal was to characterise the anatomic

2. Finite element analysis for mechanical characterization of 4D inplane carbon/carbon composite with imperfect microstructure
Finite element mesh of multi-directional 4D carbon/carbon (C/C) composite was reconstructed from 2D images obtained by X-ray tomography. Thus, imperfections in the composite such as voids, misalignment and cross-section distortion of the fibre bundles were directly incorporated in the finite element mesh. 2D images of the composite were also used for the cha

4. Painel de bambu laminado colado estrutural / Bamboo structural glued laminated panel
The search for products manufactured with renewable raw material which can be produced through an industrialization which does not cause environmental impacts led this research work to considerate the use of bamboo culm as woody material to manufacture structural panels that can be used as construction material. Bamboo presents some advantages over other mat

5. Nahm transform of Higgs bundless on Riemann surface of genus at least two / Transformada de Nahm de fibrados de Higgs sobre superficies de Riemann de genero ao menos dois
We construct the Nahm transform of a stable, degree-zero Higgs bundle on a Riemann surface of genus at least 2. Atiyah-Singer?s index theorem is the basic tool employed, along with a vanishing theorem which is due to the stability hypothesis. Our main result is that the transformed bundle is hyperholomorphic and without flat factors. This not only recovers t

6. Desenvolvimento de um fotometro multicanal baseado em um arranjo de diodos emissores de luz
The development of a multichannel photometer based on an array of eight Light Emitting Diodes (LED) is described. Optical fibre bundles were employed to guide the radiation of the LED to the measuring cell and from the cell to the photodiode detector. The instrument was designed to perform measurements in a single wavelength continuously as well as in all wa

7. The fibre bundle anatomy of human cruciate ligaments.
The cruciate ligaments of the knee consist of numerous fascicles, groups of which comprise fibre bundles. The stabilising function of these ligaments is established by changes in the lengths and orientations of the fascicles. Understanding the function of knee ligaments thus requires an understanding of their 3-dimensional fascicle architecture. Hitherto, th

8. Collagen fibre arrangement in the skin of the pig.
The arrangement and proportion of collagen fibres and fibre bundles in the dermis of the pig have been investigated with light microscopical (Nomarski's interference contrast, polarization optics) and scanning electron microscopical methods. Skin samples were obtained from different body regions of wild boars, domestic pigs and miniature pigs. All the method

9. Tension responses of chemically skinned fibre bundles of the guinea-pig taenia caeci under varied ionic environments
1. Thin fibre bundles (about 100 μm in width and 1.5 mm in length) were dissected from taenia caeci of the guinea-pig, and were mounted in an apparatus to record isometric tension mainly at 25 °C.

10. The mechanical properties of ciliary bundles of turtle cochlear hair cells.
The mechanical behaviour of the ciliary bundles of hair cells in the turtle cochlea was examined by deflecting them with flexible glass fibres of known compliance during simultaneous intracellular recording of the cell's membrane potential. Bundle motion was monitored through the attached fibre partially occluding a light beam incident on a photodiode array.

11. A collagen and elastic network in the wing of the bat.
Bundles of collagen fibrils, elastic fibres and fibroblasts are organized into a network that lies in the plane of a large portion of the bat wing. By ultrastructural (TEM and SEM) and biochemical analyses it was found that individual bundles of the net are similar to elastic ligaments. Although elastic fibres predominate, they are integrated and aligned in

12. Formation of synapses in cerebellar explants by axons from co-cultured medulla.
Explants of cerebellum from E12-E14 chick embryos were co-cultured with pieces of medulla from the same embryos for periods of up to 4 weeks and examined by EM with or without prior transection of the fibre bundles that formed rapidly between the co-cultured explants. The cerebellar explants developed a rich and complex neuropil within which a variety of pre
