1. REHYDRATION KINETICS OF DEHYDRATED BERRIES
ABSTRACT Cranberries and blueberries are small fruits known for their antioxidant properties. However, due to their high water content and short shelf life, they are generally marketed as dehydrated berries. The present work aimed to model the rehydration of dehydrated berries. Rehydration tests were conducted at 7 and 29°C using milk as a solvent and at 7,

2. Unified comprehension of the kinetics of isothermal ceramic processes under field-free and resonant wave-field conditions
Abstract This paper proposes a unified comprehension of the isothermal ceramic process kinetics stemming from mesoscopic irreversible thermodynamics. Accordingly, a unified process kinetic equation (UPKE) is derived, which predicts that the global isothermal process rate of any ceramic process is, in general, nonlinearly related both to its activation energy

3. Developing a Mathematical Model for the Controlled Release Over Time of Sulfentrazone Herbicide from Biodegradable Polymer
In our research group, controlled release systems for the sulfentrazone herbicide has been accomplished by encapsulating this bioactive compound into calcium alginate (Ca-ALG) biodegradable polymer fashion and the release mechanisms were verified by using Korsmeyer-Peppas model (KP). However, the KP model does not allow to evaluate all the phenomena involved

4. Effect of Boride Incubation Time During the Formation of Fe2B Phase
Our present study focuses on the numerical simulation of the boronized layer growth kinetics on the iron substrate of the XC38 steel, the boronizing treatment is performed in a liquid medium composed of borax and silicon carbide. We mainly calculated the incubation time of the boronized layer formation. Aimed at estimating the boronizing treatment kinetics o

5. Mathematical method to characterize the inward solid state diffusion in cylindrical parts
Abstract This work presents an analytical method for the study of the solid state diffusion process in binary systems of two phases with cylindrical radial atomic flux. The method is developed from the differential equation that describes Fick's second law that is modified by geometric function and suitable changes of variables. The modified differential equ

6. Surface treatment systems for concrete in marine environment: Effect of concrete cover thickness
Abstract There are some ways to extend the service life of a reinforced concrete structure. This paper focuses on the extension of the service life by treating the surface of reinforced concrete, specifically on the effect of the concrete cover thickness on the surface treatment system efficacy. Thus, chloride migration tests were performed and diffusion chl

7. On the Nitrogen Diffusion in a Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex Stainless Steels (DSS) have excellent corrosion resistance properties and poor wear resistance. Plasma nitriding is used to increase the surface hardness, by nitrogen diffusion into the crystal lattice, and to improve wear resistance. In this study, DSS samples were plasma nitrided at temperatures between 350 °C and 500 °C for 240 minutes under an a

8. DISPOSITIVOS DGT MODIFICADOS COM MATERIAIS ALTERNATIVOS PARA USO NA ESPECIAÇÃO DE ELEMENTOS TRAÇO
The use of MT-K10 Montmorillonite immobilized onto agarose was investigated in this work as an alternative binding phase in Diffusive Gradient in Thin Film (DGT) devices for the determination of metallic labile species. In addition, agarose itself was also used as the diffusive phase. The percentage of sorption of Zn2+, Cu2+, Cr3+, Mn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Ni2+

9. Analysis of applicability of Peleg model to the cooking-infusion of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) slices
Mass transfer kinetics in osmotic dehydration is usually modeled by Fick's law, empirical models and probabilistic models. The aim of this study was to determine the applicability of Peleg model to investigate the mass transfer during osmotic dehydration of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) slices at different temperatures. Osmotic dehydration was performed on ma

10. Estudo da captura de dióxido de carbono por misturas de hidróxido de cálcio e óxido de magnésio em baixas temperaturas
The present work has studied the carbonation reaction of hydrated lime modified by small percentages of magnesium dioxide (MgO) by the carbon dioxide (CO2) from the exhaust gas of a petrol engine. For this purpose, spherical pellets of solid adsorbents were synthesized and submitted to carbonation essays in a lab-scale fixed bed reactor. The samples conversi

11. Mass transfer kinetics of osmotic dehydration of cherry tomato.
Cherry tomato samples were osmotically dehydrated in different hypertonic NaCI solutions (with or without sucrose) at two different concentrations. Mass transfer kinetics were modelled according to Peleg, Fick and Page equations. The Peleg equation presented the best fitting for water loss and Page model showed the best predictive capacity for salt gain data

12. Salting kinetics and salt diffusivities in farmed Pantanal caiman muscle.
The legal Pantanal caiman (Caiman crocodilus yacare) farming, in Brazil, has been stimulated and among meat preservation techniques the salting process is a relatively simple and low-cost method. The objective of this work was to study the sodium chloride diffusion kinetics in farmed caiman muscle during salting. Limited volumes of brine were employed, with
