1. The effect of Allium sativum in experimental peritoneal adhesion model in rats
Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the effect of garlic on formation of postoperative adhesions in rats. Methods: Twenty-four Sprague dawley rats were divided into three groups. In Group 1 (sham), laparotomy was performed and stitched up. In Group 2 (control), after laparotomy was performed, punctate hemorrhage was induced by cecal abrasion in the cecum and 2 c

2. The effect of pycnogenol on lymphatic nodes and adhesion during in a peritoneal adhesion model in rats
Abstract Purpose: To investigate the effects of pycnogenol on peritoneal adhesions and additionally to investigate the immunohistochemical effects of free oxygen radicals and reactive lymph nodes detected in the adhesive tissue that was sampled surrounding the cecum on intra-abdominal adhesions. Methods: Twenty-seven Wistar Albino rats were divided into t

3. Preventive Effects of Ellagic Acid on Nucleus Tractus Solitarius Electrical Activity and Oxidative Stress Altered by Cerebral Global Ischemia/Reperfusion in Rat
ABSTRACT Cerebral ischemia commonly occurs when the blood flow to the entire brain or some part of the brain is disrupted. Global cerebral ischemia attenuates the nucleus tractus solitaries (NTS) EEG rhythm, increases the free radicals production and brain inflammation. Ellagic acid (EA) has antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects against neural damages.

4. Anti-inflammatory activity and chemical composition of dichloromethane extract from Piper nigrum and P. longum on permanent focal cerebral ischemia injury in rats
Abstract White pepper (Piper nigrum L.) and long pepper (Piper longum L.) belong to family Piperaceae and are commonly used as household spices and traditional medicine worldwide, specifically in China and Southeast Asia. In Traditional Chinese Hui Medicine, these herbs are widely used for treatment of stroke. Our present study investigated effects of these

5. Efeitos da Acupuntura, Eletroacupuntura e Metformina Sobre o Estresse Oxidativo, InflamaÃÃo e Glicemia em Ratas Sadias Submetidas a EstÃmulo EstrogÃnico / EFFECTS OF ACUPUNCTURE, ELETROACUPUNCTURE AND METFORMIN ON OXIDATIVE STRESS, INFLAMMATION AND BLOOD GLUCOSE IN HEALTHY RATS SUBMITTED TO ESTROGENIC STIMULATION
The physiological performance of cellular activity requires a balance between the production of free radicals and their deactivation by regulators and surge protectors. When this balance is broken, the oxidative stress takes place. Several experimental studies using estrogens to induction of ovarian and metabolic disorders, with emphasis on the polycystic ov

Ischemia leads to a variety of pathological events, including excitotoxicity, inflammation, delayed neuronal dysfunction and cell death through hyperactivation of glutamate receptors and production of free radicals, such as nitric oxide (NO). The mechanism by which cerebral excess formation of NO, which mediates neuronal death involving energy depletion, lip

Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood and its prevalence and severity are increasing in many parts of the world in recent years. The main characteristic of asthma is inflammation of the lower airways, responsible for bronchial hyperresponsiveness and variable airflow limitation, reversible with or without treatment. Several cells pla

The aim of this study was to evaluate the 100% oxygen concentration effects in Wistar rats lung tissue after 72 hours of exposition. Twelve male rats with mean weight 21015,9g, 60 to 90 days of age was studied, at random distributed in two groups with 6 animals. 11.
Apesar dessas propriedades potenciais,

12. Absence of a specific effect of free radicals on HLA-B27.
The spondylitis associated HLA-B27 epitope includes a characteristic unpaired cysteine at amino acid position 67. On some B27 molecules the thiol (-SH) side chain of this residue seems to be available for chemical interactions. The possibility that free radicals produced during inflammation might specifically affect this group was investigated in this work.
