1. Effect of fungicide on Fusarium verticillioidesmycelial morphology and fumonisin B1 production
The effect of fludioxonil + metalaxyl-M on the mycelial morphology, sporulation and fumonisin B1 production by Fusarium verticillioides 103 F was evaluated. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the fungicide caused inhibition of hyphal growth and defects on hyphae morphology such as cell wall disruption, withered hyphae, and excessive septation.

2. Copper resistance of different ectomycorrhizal fungi such as Pisolithus microcarpus, Pisolithus sp., Scleroderma sp. and Suillus sp.
Environments contaminated with heavy metals negatively impact the living organisms. Ectomycorrhizal fungi have shown important role in these impacted sites. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the copper-resistance of ectomycorrhizal fungi isolates Pisolithus microcarpus - UFSC-Pt116; Pisolithus sp. - UFSC-PT24, Suillus sp. - UFSM RA 2.8 and Scleroderma sp. -

3. Avaliação dos efeitos da fertilização nitrogenada (uréiae uréia com NBPT) e do Fungicida maxim - XL na produção de fumonisinas por Fusarium verticillioides
Corn is an economically important cereal worldwide, but it is susceptible to toxigenic fungi contamination, mainly Fusarium verticillioides. This fungus produces fumonisins, which cause several mycotoxicoses and probably esophageal cancer in humans. Due to the problems caused by F. verticillioides and fumonisin contamination in corn, during its cultivation s

4. Produção de Quitina e Quitosana em cultura submersa de Rhizopus arrhizus nos meios milhocina e sintético para Mucolares
Inquiries had been carried out with submerged fermentation of Rhizopus arrhizus for production of biomass and copolymers chitin and chitosan, using the culture in synthetic medium for Mucoralean and corn steep liquor, as alternative substratum. In this direction, fermentations in Erlenmyers flasks of 250mL had been carried out, contend 50 mL of the media had

6. Profile of antimicrobial resistance of bacteria isolated from cockroaches (Periplaneta americana) in a Brazilian health care institution
Cockroaches carry microorganisms to sterilized materials, equipment and non-contaminated food in hospitals and in homes. Hence, they are regarded as major microbial vectors. We isolated and identified microorganisms from living cockroaches captured from a Brazilian health care institution and we determined the antimicrobial susceptibility profile of the isol

7. AnÃlise da diversidade genÃtica e patogÃmica de Mycosphaerella fijiensis e Mycosphaerelle musicola no Brasil
Black and yellow Sigatoka diseases, caused by the fungi Mycosphaerella fijiensis and M. musicola, respectively, are responsible for important losses in banana production all over the world. The former disease is distributed over the whole Brazilian territory, with the exception of the Northeast region and the sates of Rio de Janeiro, EspÃrito Santo, GoiÃs

8. Estudo do sistema ligninolitico produzido por fungos sob diferentes condições de oxigenação
The ligninolytic system produced by fungi is currently of great interest because it has many environmental applications. Ligninolytic enzymes can be used for the treatment lignocellulosic wastes, biopulping, effluent treatment, etc., and one able to degrade a variety of organic pollutants. In the present work a study was made of the ligninolytic system of fi

9. Nonvalue of Culturing Cerebrospinal Fluid for Fungi
No studies have evaluated the efficacy of culturing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for fungi. Because of the facts that the most common fungi responsible for meningitis grow well in media utilized for routine bacterial cultures and that cryptococcal antigen tests are commonly ordered, the efficacy of routinely performing fungal cultures specifically to recover fu

10. Recovery of pathogenic fungi from clinical specimens submitted for mycobacteriological culture.
A total of 332 major pathogenic fungi were isolated from specimens cultured onto both fungal culture media and media used for culturing mycobacteria from January 1968 to June 1975. Only 72 (21.7%) fungi were recovered on media used for culturing mycobacteria. The effect of sodium hydroxide treatment was evaluated and shown to be detrimental to the recovery o

11. Milk-Clotting Enzymes From Microorganisms
A total of 230 cultures of fungi and 43 cultures of bacteria, isolated from such sources as soil, butter, and milk, were screened for their milk-clotting activity. The fungi were cultivated on semisolid media, and the bacteria were grown in milk media in shake culture. Phytic acid, added as calcium phytate, was found to stimulate production of the enzyme in

12. Comparative recovery of fungi from biphasic and conventional blood culture media.
A brain heart infusion broth and agar biphasic bottle was compared with a vented broth brain heart infusion bottle for the recovery of fungi from blood. A total of 40 fungi, all yeasts, were recovered from 5,000 blood cultures. The biphasic bottle slightly increased the overall recovery of six species of yeasts. In addition, yeasts were first detected more o
