1. Funções valorização e anéis de valorização de Dubrovin em álgebras simples / Value functions and Dubrovin valuation rings on simple algebras

2. MODOS QUASE-NORMAIS E A CORRESPONDÊNCIA ADS/CFT / QUASINORMAL MODES AND THE ADS/CFT CORRESPONDENCE
The electromagnetic and gravitational quasinormal mode spectra of plane-symmetric anti-de Sitter black holes are investigated in the present work. According to the AdS/CFT correspondence, the black hole quasinormal frequencies correspond to the poles of R-current and stress-energy tensor correlation functions in the holographically dual field theory: the N =

3. Espectro de excitação para modelos de teorias quânticas de campo na rede: modelos puramente fermiônicos e modelos de cromodinâmica quântica / Excitation spectrum for quantum field theory models on the lattice: pure fermionic models and quantum chromodynamics models
In this thesis, we obtain, from a mathematically rigorous point of view, the low-lying energy-momentum spectrum of two $3+1$ dimensional imaginary time lattice quantum filed theory with fermion fields (we give explicit results for the case $d = 3$ and Dirac matrices): a pure fermionic model with quartic interaction in the $N$-component fermion field and a qu

4. On the Faddeev-Popov operator eigenspectrum in topological background fields
During the last years significant progress has been made in the understanding of the confinement of quarks and gluons. However, this progress has been made in two directions, which are at first sight very different. On the one hand, topological configurations seem to play an important role in the formation of the static quark-anti-quark potential. On the oth

5. On the infrared behavior of Green's functions in Yang-Mills theory
Non-perturbative properties of QCD, such as color confinement, are encoded in the infrared behavior of correlation functions, e.g. propagators and vertices. Various analytic predictions have been suggested for these quantities in various gauges. Here we numerically test these predictions using lattice gauge theory. In particular, we present results for the 2

6. A local non-Abelian gauge invariant action stemming from the nonlocal operator FmuN(D²)-1FmuN
We report on the nonlocal gauge invariant operator of dimension two, FµN (D²)-1 FµN. We are able to localize this operator by introducing a suitable set of (anti)commuting antisymmetric tensor fields. Starting from this, we succeed in constructing a local gauge invariant action containing a mass parameter, and we prove the renormalizability to all orders

7. QCD Green functions and their application to hadron physics
In a functional approach to QCD the infrared behaviour of Landau gauge Green functions is investigated. It can be proven that the ghost Dyson-Schwinger equation implies the Gribov-Zwanziger horizon condition. Its relation to the Kugo-Ojima confinement scenario is elucidated. Positivity violation for gluons is demonstrated, and the analytic structure of the g

8. Local and global symmetries in gauge theories / Simetrias globais e locais em teorias de calibre
This thesis deals with the geometric formulation of classical gauge theories, or Yang-Mills theories, regarded as an important class of models that must be included in any attempt to establish a general mathematical framework for classical field theory. Such a formulation must come in (at least) two variants: the hamiltonian version which has gone through a

9. Thermodynamics of abelian forms in real compact hyperbolic spaces
We analyze gauge theories based on abelian p-forms in real compact hyperbolic manifolds. The explicit thermodynamic functions associated with skew-symmetric tensor fields are obtained via zeta-function regularization and the trace tensor kernel formula. Thermodynamic quantities in the high-temperature expansions are calculated and the entropy/energy ratios a

Algorithms for general 0-1 mixed integer programs can be successfully developed by using lift-and-project methods to generate cuts. Cuts are generated by solving a cut- generation-program that depends on a certain normalization. From a theoretical point of view, the good numerical behavior of these cuts is not completely understood yet, specially, concerning

11. Water dynamics in level terraces. / Dinâmica da água em terraços de infiltração.
Terracing is a soil conservation practice that aims to reduce water and soil loss by interception of runoff that occurs when rainfall intensities exceed infiltration capacity. Actually, dimensions of terraces are being determined in an empirical way; however, a more detailed understanding of the physics behind the hydrological functions of terraces would all
