1. Transient Directional Solidification of Cast Iron: Microstructure Formation, Columnar to Equiaxed Transition and Hardness
A number of applications may require cast iron. Engine cylinder blocks, flywheels, gearbox cases, machine-tool bases may be manufactured by using grey cast iron while bearing surfaces with white cast iron. Thus, understanding the solidification behaviour of eutectic cast iron becomes an essential task, with certain points to be accomplished. Transient direct

2. Surface contact fatigue failure of a case hardened pinion shaft
An investigation was made to determine the causes of surface contact fatigue failure of a case hardened driver pinion located in the intermediate shaft of a reducer gearbox used in a sugar and alcohol mill. The examination of the component revealed the presence of a cemented layer substantially thicker than that generally specified for pinions devised for th

3. Uma proposta de ferramenta para controle de qualidade em linha de produÃÃo e montagem de cÃmbios automotivos utilizando filtragem adaptativa / A proposal of tool for automotive gearbox quality control in production and assembly line using adaptive filtering
Normally, automotive gearbox quality control in assembly line is made in subjective manner by specialists. The human ear, despite being a highly sensitive tool and widely used in quality control is also sensitive to emotional and environmental problems (back noises), besides not giving measurable values. In order to solve this problem, the traditional techni

Study of the relation between oil viscosity and vibration in a gearbox.
The crescent implementation, by brazilian industry, of predictive maintenance techniques demands, from vibration analyses processes, more capability for supplying information on the state of equipment. Among the existent analysis procedures for rotative machines, the vibration analysis is one of the more used, being nowadays, present in a wide portion of imp

6. Estudo da dinamica das transmissões mecanicas por trens de engrenagens planetarias
Vehicular transmissions are the way to adapt the torque supplied by the engine to that required at each moment of the path of a vehicle. Automatic gearboxes are among severa! types oftransmissions. Epicyclic Gear Trains, EGTs, are fundamental components ofthis kind of mechanical transmission. This kind of mechanism have been studied exhaustively trough the y

7. Proposal of methodology for the modeling and control of manipulators
Industrial applications demand that robots operate in agreement with the position and orientation of their end effector. It is necessary to solve the kinematics inverse problem. This allows the displacement of the joints of the manipulator to be determined, to accomplish a given objective. Complete studies of dynamical control of joint robotics are also nece

8. Performance measurement to production management in a supply chain scenario. / Medição de desempenho para gestão da produção em um cenário de cadeia de suprimentos.
The frequent changes in the management environment demand that the companies must have a high capacity of adaptation. In this way, it is fundamental that mechanisms to measure the actions and operations have conditions to analyze the current and future situation of the company. In these analyses, the performance measures became good tools to analyze these ev

9. Development of a manager system for calculation of machine elements for mechanical projects. / Desenvolvimento de um sistema computacional de auxílio ao cálculo e desenho de elementos de máquinas.
With a market more and more demanding in terms of efficiency and costs, one has the need to integrated all the possible information of a company, helping in this way to guarantee the quality of products and services. Moreover, nowadays there are plenty of resources to systematize the repetitive and tedious tasks, such as calculating a shaft or a pair of gear

10. Stationary-phase-inducible "gearbox" promoters: differential effects of katF mutations and role of sigma 70.
Many of the changes in gene expression observed when Escherichia coli cells enter stationary phase are regulated at the level of transcription initiation. A group of stationary-phase-inducible promoters, known as "gearbox" promoter, display a characteristic sequence in the -10 region which differs greatly from the consensus sequence for sigma 70-dependent pr

11. Division genes in Escherichia coli are expressed coordinately to cell septum requirements by gearbox promoters.
The cell division ftsQAZ cluster and the ftsZ-dependent bolA morphogene of Escherichia coli are found to be driven by gearboxes, a distinct class of promoters characterized by showing an activity that is inversely dependent on growth rate. These promoters contain specific sequences upstream from the mRNA start point, and their -10 region is essential for the

12. Growth phase-regulated expression of bolA and morphology of stationary-phase Escherichia coli cells are controlled by the novel sigma factor sigma S.
The novel sigma factor (sigma S) encoded by rpoS (katF) is required for induction of many growth phase-regulated genes and expression of a variety of stationary-phase phenotypes in Escherichia coli. Here we demonstrate that wild-type cells exhibit spherical morphology in stationary phase, whereas rpoS mutant cells remain rod shaped and are generally larger.
