1. Oxidative stress in maternal milk and cord blood in gestational diabetes mellitus: a prospective study
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Reduced antioxidant defenses may reflect a poor protective response against oxidative stress and this may be implicated in progression of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Oxidative stress induced by hyperglycemia plays a major role in micro and macrovascular complications, which imply endothelial dysfunction. OBJECTIVE: Our aim in

2. Correlation analysis between short-term insulin-like growth factor-I and glucose intolerance status after transsphenoidal adenomectomy in acromegalic patients: a large retrospective study from a single center in China
ABSTRACT Objectives: Our study aimed to investigate the associations of glucose tolerance status with insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and other clinical laboratory parameters of acromegalic patients before and after the patients underwent transsphenoidal adenomectomy (TSA) by conducting a single-center, retrospective study. Subjects and methods: A tot

3. High rate of abnormal glucose tolerance in Brazilian individuals undergoing coronary angiography
Introduction Undiagnosed hyperglycemia is common in high cardiovascular risk individuals, especially in those with coronary artery disease (CAD). There is no consensus about the optimal method for the screening of hyperglycemia in this population.Subjects and methods Five hundred and fourteen Brazilian individuals undergoing coronary angiography, without pre

4. Evaluation of antihyperglycaemic activity of Calotropis procera leaves extract on streptozotocin-induced diabetes in Wistar rats
Calotropis procera (Aiton) W.T.Aiton,Apocynaceae, popularly known as "algodão-de-seda", is a wild African bush, rich in bioactive substances that determine the medicinal potential of this species. Diabetes mellitus is a disease that affects about 10% of the population. This study aimed to evaluate the antihyperglycaemic activity of the hydroalcoholic extrac

5. Efeitos da Acupuntura, Eletroacupuntura e Metformina Sobre o Estresse Oxidativo, InflamaÃÃo e Glicemia em Ratas Sadias Submetidas a EstÃmulo EstrogÃnico / EFFECTS OF ACUPUNCTURE, ELETROACUPUNCTURE AND METFORMIN ON OXIDATIVE STRESS, INFLAMMATION AND BLOOD GLUCOSE IN HEALTHY RATS SUBMITTED TO ESTROGENIC STIMULATION
The physiological performance of cellular activity requires a balance between the production of free radicals and their deactivation by regulators and surge protectors. When this balance is broken, the oxidative stress takes place. Several experimental studies using estrogens to induction of ovarian and metabolic disorders, with emphasis on the polycystic ov

6. Padrão de consumo de café e monitoramento de riscos associados ao diabetes tipo 2, obesidade e dislipidemias na população adulta do Distrito Federal e entorno
Objective: coffee is a functional food that has been associated with risk reductions of various non-communicable diseases and injuries, including diabetes. Since differences in dietary habits are known modifying factors in the epidemiology of diabetes, this study aimed to describe the pattern of coffee consumption and its association with the occurrence of t

7. Impact of lifestyle intervention program on cardiometabolic profile of a high risk Japanese-Brazilian population. / Efeitos de um programa de intervenção no estilo de vida sobre o perfil de risco cardiometabólico de uma população nipo-brasileira de alto risco cardiovascular
Introduction: High prevalence rates of diabetes mellitus type 2 and other cardiovascular risk factors, previously reported in the Japanese-Brazilian population, motivated an intervention program for change in lifestyle. Aims: To evaluate the effect of 2-year behavioral intervention on cardiometabolic profile of these individuals, independent of the glucose t

8. Modulação do mecanismo de sedreção de insulina em ilhotas pancreaticas de ratos submetidos a restrição protetica e suplementados com taurina / Insulin secretion mechanisms in pancreatic islets of protein-restricted rats supplemented with taurine
Malnutrition still is a public health issue, especially in developing countries. Many studies correlate malnourishment during early life and the development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on latter stages. Animal models of malnutrition reveal impaired insulin secretion stimulated by glucose and other insulinotropic agents as well as l

9. Adiponectina, TNF- alfa e IL-6 em pacientes portadores de obesidade grave : relação com a sensibilidade a insulina e com a tolerancia a glicose / Adiponectin, TNF- alfa and IL-6 in severe patients : relation to insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance
Obesity is associated with a cluster of metabolic alterations such as insulin resistance, hypertension, and dyslipidemia and with a low-grade systemic inflammation, which is presumed to play a role in the development of insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Adipocytokines or adipokines are synthesized by adipose

10. Periondontitis modulates insulin signaling, c-jun N-terminal kinase activity, IKK activity, and insulin recptor substrate-1 (ser 307) phosphorylation in muscle and liver of wistar rats / A influencia da periodontite na via de sinalização da insulina em musculo e figado de ratos machos wistar
Traditional thinking/paradigms have maintained that periodontits is na oral disease and that the tissue destructive response remains localized within the periodontium, limiting effects of the disease to oral tissues supporting the teeth. Recent studies have indicated that periodontits may produce any number of alterations in systemic health and in the presen

11. A high-fructose diet induces changes in pp185 phosphorylation in muscle and liver of rats
Insulin stimulates the tyrosine kinase activity of its receptor resulting in the tyrosine phosphorylation of pp185, which contains insulin receptor substrates IRS-1 and IRS-2. These early steps in insulin action are essential for the metabolic effects of insulin. Feeding animals a high-fructose diet results in insulin resistance. However, the exact molecular

12. Blood lipid levels, thyroid status, and glucose tolerance in progressive partial lipodystrophy
Eight women with uncomplicated progressive partial lipodystrophy and two with progressive lipodystrophy and diabetes mellitus were studied. Plasma triglyceride levels were significantly elevated in the subjects with uncomplicated lipodystrophy; serum cholesterol, phospholipid, and plasma free fatty acid levels were normal. Paper electrophoresis showed increa
