1. Ethanol vapor treatment of ‘Laetitia’ plums stored under modified atmosphere

2. Enhancement of the antioxidant capacity and reduction of chilling injury in ‘Douradão’ peaches refrigerated under pre-storage and modified atmosphere
ABSTRACT. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of pre-storage for 24h and 48h and different modified atmosphere packaging-MAP treatments (using low-density polyethylene - LDPE) on the antioxidant compounds and the postharvest quality of ‘Douradão’ peaches under cold storage. The peaches were submitted to the following treatments: a control

5. Pós-colheita de nêspera Fukuhara: efeito de compostos salicilados, 1-metilciclopropeno e tratamentos térmicos / Postharvest of loquat fruit Fukuhara: effect of salicylate compounds, 1-methylcyclopropene and heat treatments
The aim of this work was to develop new techniques to improve the loquat fruit Fukuhara conservation, avoiding juiciness loss, increase in firmness and pulp internal browning. For this, allow to cold storage the application of salicilate compounds, 1- methylcyclopropene and temperature conditioning. In the first experiment four concentration of salicylic aci

6. Tratamentos térmicos, cloreto de cálcio e atmosfera modificada em pêssegos IAC Douradão: aspectos fisiológicos, bioquímicos e de qualidade / Heat treatments, calcium chloride and modified atmosphere in IAC Douradão peach: physiological, biochemical and qualitative aspects
This study was carried out with the objective of evaluate the cold storage potential of IAC Douradãopeach and to determine effects of the heat treatment, calcium chloride application and modified atmosphere on the physiology, biochemistry and quality of this fruit, to increase the shelf-life of this cultivar. For this, five experiments were carried out. In

7. Isolamento, purificação e caracterização bioquimica da peroxidase de carambola (Averrhoa carambola, L.)
Peroxidases (POD, EC 1.11.7.1 donor: hydrogen peroxide oxydoreductase) are a group of isoenzymes whose action results in discoloration and off-flavours in foods, but are also used in food and clinical analyses, as well as in food conservation, combined with the action of other enzymes. A lot of tropical fruits and vegetables have yet to be biochemically char

8. Distribution, expression, and long-range mapping of legiolysin gene (lly)-specific DNA sequences in legionellae.
The legiolysin gene (lly) cloned from Legionella pneumophila Philadelphia 1 confers the phenotypes of hemolysis and browning of the culture medium. An internal lly-specific DNA probe was used in Southern hybridizations for the detection of lly-specific DNA in the genomes of legionellae and other gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. Under conditions of high str

9. Macrorestriction Analysis of Caenorhabditis Elegans Genomic DNA
The usefulness of genomic physical maps is greatly enhanced by linkage of the physical map with the genetic map. We describe a ``macrorestriction mapping'' procedure for Caenorhabditis elegans that we have applied to this endeavor. High molecular weight, genomic DNA is digested with infrequently cutting restriction enzymes and size-fractionated by pulsed fie

10. Amphipathic amines affect membrane excitability in paramecium: role for bilayer couple.
Amphipathic amines and local anesthetics stimulated reversal of the ciliary beating direction in wild-type Paramecium. Ca++ influx across the surface membrane and the consequent increase in internal Ca++ causes ciliary reversal and backward swimming. Mutant cells of the "Pawn" class, which lack a "gating" mechanism for regulating Ca++ influx, did not swim ba

11. The leaky UGA termination codon of tobacco rattle virus RNA is suppressed by tobacco chloroplast and cytoplasmic tRNAs(Trp) with CmCA anticodon.
RNA-1 molecules from tobacco rattle virus (TRV) and pea early-browning virus (PEBV), two members of the tobravirus group, have recently been shown to contain internal, in-frame UGA termination codons which are suppressed in vitro. Our results suggest that a UGA stop codon also exists in RNA-1 of pepper ringspot virus (PRV), another tobravirus. UGA suppressio
