1. Evaluation of the neurotoxic effects of intrathecal administration of (S)-(+)-Ketoprofen on rat spinal cords: randomized controlled experimental study
A segurança pré-clínica relativa à possível neurotoxicidade associada

2. NF-kB mediated CX3CL1 activation in the dorsal root ganglion contributes to the maintenance of neuropathic pain induced in adult male Sprague Dawley rats
Abstract Purpose: To evaluate the role of CX3CL1 and NF-κB in the lumbar disc herniation induced neuropathic pain. Methods: After LDH induced by implantation of autologous nucleus pulposus (NP) on the left L5 nerve root was established, mechanical thresholds and thermal hyperalgesia were tested at relevant time points during an observation period of 28

3. Effect of S-methyl-l-thiocitrulline dihydrochloride on rat micturition reflex
ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the effect of neuronal nitric oxide synthase on the striated urethral sphincter and the urinary bladder. Materials and Methods: A coaxial catheter was implanted in the proximal urethra and another one in the bladder of female rats, which were anesthetized with subcutaneous injection of urethane. The urethral pressure with sa

4. P2X7 receptor mediates activation of microglial cells in prostate of chemically irritated rats
Purpose Evidence shows that adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is involved in the transmission of multiple chronic pain via P2X7 receptor. This study was to investigate the P2X7 and microglial cells in the chronic prostatitis pain. Materials and Methods Rats were divided into control group and chronic prostatitis group (n = 24 per group). A chronic prostatitis

5. Role of cGMP and cAMP in the hemodynamic response to intrathecal sildenafil administration
INTRODUCTION: Results from our laboratory have demonstrated that intracerebroventricular administration of sildenafil to conscious rats promoted a noticeable increase in both lumbar sympathetic activity and heart rate, with no change in the mean arterial pressure. The intracerebroventricular administration of sildenafil may have produced the hemodynamic effe

6. The role of central mechanisms in the anti-inflammatory effect of amitriptyline on carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats
OBJECTIVE: The present study was designed to further investigate the effect of amitriptyline, a classical tricyclic antidepressant, on carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. METHODS: First, amitriptyline was administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) at doses of 20, 40 and 80 mg kg-1, 30 min before subplantar injection of carrageenan. Second, amitriptyline was gi

7. PADRONIZAÇÃO E VALIDAÇÃO DE UM NOVO MODELO DE FEBRE INDUZIDA PELA INJEÇÃO INTRATECAL DE PROSTAGLANDINA E2 EM RATOS JOVENS / CHARACTERIZATION AND VALIDATION OF A NEW FEVER MODEL INDUCED BY THE INTRATHECAL INJECTION OF PROSTAGLANDIN E2 IN YOUNG RATS
The fever response, besides being part of host defense response to infection or inflammation, is associated with discomfort and anxiety and may constitute a risk for febrile seizures in children. Therefore, antipyretic therapy is routinely prescribed for febrile patients. The animal models of fever using the systemic injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and

8. Participação do óxido nítrico (NO) na modulação central da hiperalgesia na artrite induzida por zymozan (AZy) em ratos. / Nitric oxide (NO) participation in central hyperralgesia modulation in modulation in the zymozan induced artritis (AZy) in rats.
We investigate in this work the role of the central nervous system in the modulation of the inflammatory peripheral pain in the zymosan induced arthritis (AZy) in rats. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and sinovial fluid were collected from animals at different AZy times (1, 3, 6, 12 and 14 hours) in order to determine the nitrite level. Different groups of male, W

9. Desenvolvimento e avaliação farmacologica de formulações de liberação controlada com anestesicos locais amino-amidas ciclicos : bupivacaina, mepivacaina e ropivacaina / Development and pharmacological evaluation of drug-delivery systems for cyclic amino-amide local anesthetics: bupivacaine, mepivacaine and ropivacaine
Local anesthetics (LA) are among the different classes of pharmacological compounds used to attenuate or to eliminate pain. These drugs, which are able to reversibly block the excitation/transmission of the nerve impulse in axons have a relatively short action and a significant toxicity to the Central Nervous and Cardiovascular systems. In order to prolong t

10. Chronic intrathecal cannulation enhances nociceptive responses in rats
The influence of a chronically implanted spinal cannula on the nociceptive response induced by mechanical, chemical or thermal stimuli was evaluated. The hyperalgesia in response to mechanical stimulation induced by carrageenin or prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) was significantly increased in cannulated (Cn) rats, compared with naive (Nv) or sham-operated (Sh) rats.

11. Intrathecal triiodothyronine administration causes greater heart rate stimulation in hypothyroid rats than intravenously delivered hormone. Evidence for a central nervous system site of thyroid hormone action.
To determine whether intracerebrally localized iodothyronines produce thyroid hormone-related functional effects, heart rate responses were compared in conscious hypothyroid rats given triiodothyronine (T3) by either the intrathecal or the intravenous route. A significant increase in heart rate occurred within 18 h after 1.5 nmol T3/100 g body wt was deliver

12. Sites and mechanism of action for the effects of intrathecal noradrenaline on thermoregulation in the rat
1. In unanaesthetized rats, intrathecal injection of 0.30 μmole noradrenaline (NA) at the level of the lumbar enlargement produced a transient rise in core temperature followed by prolonged hypothermia and tail skin vasodilation.
