1. DNA repair pathways and cisplatin resistance: an intimate relationship
The main goal of chemotherapeutic drugs is to induce massive cell death in tumors. Cisplatin is an antitumor drug widely used to treat several types of cancer. Despite its remarkable efficiency, most tumors show intrinsic or acquired drug resistance. The primary biological target of cisplatin is genomic DNA, and it causes a plethora of DNA lesions that block

2. Prognostic factors for clinical outcomes after rotator cuff repair
OBJECTIVE: To identify prognostic factors of postoperative functional outcomes. METHODS: Retrospective case series evaluating patients undergoing rotator cuff repair, analyzed by the UCLA score (pre and 12-month postoperative) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (preoperative). Patients' intrinsic variables related to the injury and intervention were evaluated.

3. Microabrasion in tooth enamel discoloration defects: three cases with long-term follow-ups
Superficial irregularities and certain intrinsic stains on the dental enamel surfaces can be resolved by enamel microabrasion, however, treatment for such defects need to be confined to the outermost regions of the enamel surface. Dental bleaching and resin-based composite repair are also often useful for certain situations for tooth color corrections. This

4. Potent antileukemic action of naphthoquinoidal compounds: evidence for an intrinsic death mechanism based on oxidative stress and inhibition of DNA repair

5. Ultrasonographic evaluation of Achilles tendon repair after percutaneous sectioning for the correction of congenital clubfoot residual equinus / Avaliação ultrassonográfica da reparação do tendão calcâneo após secção percutânea para a correção do equino residual do pé torto congênito idiopático
Most cases of congenital clubfoot treated by the Ponseti technique require percutaneous Achilles tenotomy in order to correct the residual equinus. Clinical evidences suggest that complete healing occurs between the cut tendon stumps, but there have not yet been any detailed studies investigating this reparative process. This study was performed to assess th

6. Asthma: where is it going?
Asthma is characterized by reversible airway obstruction, airway hyperresponsiveness, and airway inflammation. Although our understanding of its pathophysiological mechanisms continues to evolve, the relative contributions of airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation are still debated. The first mechanism identified as important for asthma was bronchial hy

7. Bone marrow stroma modulates the expression of several drug resistance/sensitivity genes in pediatric acute limphoblastic leukemia / O estroma da medula ossea e a sua influencia na expressão de genes de resistencia e sensibilidade a quimioterapicos na leucemia linfoide aguda (LLA) pediatrica
The intrinsic or acquired chemotherapy resistance composites one of the most important causes of failures in the treatment of pediatric ALL. The ALL and bone marrow microenvironment nteraction contributes for the proliferation and resistance to the chemotherapy regimen of leukemic cells probably through a great variety of cellular mechanisms, including incre

8. Safyreä: a readjustable minimally invasive sling for female urinary stress incontinence
INTRODUCTION: SAFYREä is a readjustable and minimally invasive sling for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). It is as a pubovaginal sling placed in the medial third of the urethra. The initial experience is described. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-five patients (mean age = 59 years) underwent a SAFYREä implant to treat SUI. Physical examinat

11. Rotator Cuff Repair Augmentation in a Canine Model with Use of a Woven Poly-L-Lactide Device
Background: Despite advances in surgical treatment options, failure rates of rotator cuff repair have continued to range from 20% to 90%. Hence, there is a need for new repair strategies that provide effective mechanical reinforcement of rotator cuff repair as well as stimulate and enhance the intrinsic healing potential of the patient. The purpose of this s
