1. Morphology and morphometry of upland lakes over lateritic crust, Serra dos Carajás, southeastern Amazon region
ABSTRACT High-resolution satellite images, digital elevation models, bathymetric and sedimentological surveys coupled with statistical analysis were used to understand the physical environment and discuss their influence on water quality of the five upland lakes of Serra Sul dos Carajás, southeast Amazonia. The lakes have mid-altitude ranges (elevation), ve

2. Desigualdades isoperimÃtricas para integrais de curvatura em domÃnios k-convexos estrelados / Isoperimetric inequalities for integrals of curvature in k-convex starshaped domains

3. Curvaturas mÃdias anisotrÃpicas : estabilidade e resultados para hipersuperfÃcies nÃo-convexas / Anisotropic mean curvatures: stability and results for non-convex hypersurfaces

4. Iterative feedback tuning of uncertain state space systems
Iterative Feedback Tuning is a purely data driven tuning algorithm for optimizing control parameters based on closed loop data. The algorithm is designed to produce an unbiased estimate of the performance cost function gradient for iteratively improving the control parameters to achieve optimal loop performance. This tuning method has been developed for syst

5. Using sentinels to detect intersections of convex and nonconvex polygons
We describe finite sets of points, called sentinels, which allow us to decide if isometric copies of polygons, convex or not, intersect. As an example of the applicability of the concept of sentinel, we explain how they can be used to formulate an algorithm based on the optimization of differentiable models to pack polygons in convex sets. Mathematical subje

6. Global convergence of a regularized factorized quasi-Newton method for nonlinear least squares problems
In this paper, we propose a regularized factorized quasi-Newton method with a new Armijo-type line search and prove its global convergence for nonlinear least squares problems. This convergence result is extended to the regularized BFGS and DFP methods for solving strictly convex minimization problems. Some numerical results are presented to show efficiency

7. Algoritmos para problemas de corte e empacotamento / Algorithms for cutting and packing problems
Several versions of Cutting and Packing problems are considered NP-hard and, if we consider that P ¿ NP, we do not have any exact polynomial algorithm for solve them. Practical applications arises for such problems and include: resources allocation for computers; cut of steel, wood, glass, aluminum, etc.; packing of objects; and, loading objects into contai

8. Numerical resolution of cone-constrained eigenvalue problems
Given a convex cone K and matrices A and B, one wishes to find a scalar λ and a nonzero vector x satisfying the complementarity system K ∋ x ⊥(Ax-λ Bx) ∈ K+. This problem arises in mechanics and in other areas of applied mathematics. Two numerical techniques for solving such kind of cone-constrained eigenvalue problem are discussed, namely, the Power

Sambaqui do Bacanga archaeological site is located in the Island of São Luis -Maranhão Brazil, in the region bathed by the Bacanga River. A tratigraphic collection of 78 ceramic fragments was collected during the years 2005 and 2006, to perform a qualitative analysis of the chemical elements employing a Portable System of Energy Dispersive X-ray Flu

10. Implementação dos efeitos da não linearidade do tensor de Reynolds em modelos de turbulência baseados na hipótese de Boussinesq / Implementation of non linear effects of Reynolds tensor on turbulence models based on Boussinesq approximation
The main goal of this work is to implement and evaluate the correction proposed by Spalart [53] on turbulence models based on Boussinesq approximation. The objective of this correction is to capture non linear effects of Reynolds tensor, which are not correctly predicted and modeled by Boussinesq approximation. In his work, Spalart [53] proposed the correcti

11. Convex formularizations for robust H2 control problems relative to non-parametric pertubations / Formulações convexas para problemas de controle H2 - robusto relativo a pertubações não-paramétricas
In this work, performance analysis and control synthesis for good performance are studied for systems subject to non-parametric perturbations which satisfy a prescribed norm bound. First, the performance analysis problem is considered for a given controller that ensures robust stability in presence of such perturbations.. The performance index used is the so

12. Resolução do problema de programação matematica com restrições de equilibrio usando restauração inexada / Resolution of mathematical program with equilibrium constraints using inexact restauration
A Mathematical Program with Equilibrium Constraints (MPEC) is an optimization problem, where part of the variables are constrained to be solutions of a variational inequality problem parameterized by the other variables. The reformulation of a MPEC, as a classical optimizatlon problem, replacing the variational inequality problem by corresponding the K.K. T
