1. Anti-fungal potential of ozone against some dermatophytes
ABSTRACT Dermatophytes are classified in three genera, Epidermophyton, Microsporum and Trichophyton. They have the capacity to invade keratinized tissue to produce a cutaneous infection known as dermatophytoses. This investigation was performed to study the effect of gaseous ozone and ozonized oil on three specific properties of six different dermatophytes.

2. Atividade enzimática de lysobacter sp. isolada de penas de pinguins da Ilha de Rei George, Antártica
Keratinolitic micro-organisms are found in diverse environments, having already been described between fungi and bacteria. Among the microbial enzymes that have been gaining prominence are the keratinases, responsible for the keratin degradation. The aim of this study is to isolate and to identify micro-organisms producing keratinases from decomposing feathe

3. Isolation of Microsporum gypseum in soil samples from different geographical regions of Brazil, evaluation of the extracellular proteolytic enzymes activities (keratinase and elastase) and molecular sequencing of selected strains
A survey of Microsporum gypseum was conducted in soil samples in different geographical regions of Brazil. The isolation of dermatophyte from soil samples was performed by hair baiting technique and the species were identified by morphology studies. We analyzed 692 soil samples and the recuperating rate was 19.2%. The activities of keratinase and elastase we

4. Formulation of economical microbial feed using degraded chicken feathers by a novel Streptomyces sp: mitigation of environmental pollution
A new Streptomyces sp. IF 5 was isolated from the feather dumped soil and found to have a tremendous keratinase activity. The strain enabled the degradation of the chicken feathers very effectively in 60 h. The 16S rRNA sequence of 1474 bp long was submitted to the National centre for Biotechnological information. The keratinolytic activity in the culture me

5. Increased expression of keratinase and other peptidases by Candida parapsilosis mutants
Keratinases are enzymes of great importance involved in pathogenic processes of some fungi. They also have a widespread ecological role since they are responsible for the degradation and recycling of keratin. On the one hand, studying them furthers our knowledge of pathogenicity mechanisms, which has important implications for human health, and on the other

6. Potencial queranolítico e caracterização de uma queratinase extracelular de Bacillus sp. P45 / Keratinolytic potential and characterization of an extracellular keratinase from Bacillus sp. P45

7. Feather degradation by strains of Bacillus isolated from decomposing feathers
Feather waste is generated in large amounts as a by-product of commercial poultry processing. This residue is almost pure keratin, which is not easily degradable by common proteolytic enzymes. Eight strains of Bacillus, isolated from decomposing feathers were tested for the hydrolysis of feather wastes in the laboratory. Among these strains, Bacillus cereus

8. Purificação parcial e caracterização de uma protease alcalina queratinolítica de Bacillus sp. P7 / Partial purification and characterization of an alkaline keratinolytic protease from Bacillus sp. P7

9. Evaluation of the activity of extracellular proteolytic enzimes (keratinase and elastase), and molecular analysis of samples of Microsporum gypseum strains isolated from different sources and geographical regions of Brazil.
A biotipagem molecular

10. Phosphate-Mediated Alteration of the Microsporum gypseum Germination Protease Specificity for Substrate: Enhanced Keratinase Activity
Inorganic phosphate was found to decrease the caseinolytic and ethyl-esterase activities of the Microsporum gypseum germination protease. The germination protease possessed exokeratinase (beta-keratinase) activity immediately after release from the fungal spore. After phosphate treatment of the enzyme, the germination protease also possessed endo-keratinase

11. Purification and Characterization of a Keratinase from a Feather-Degrading Bacillus licheniformis Strain
A keratinase was isolated from the culture medium of feather-degrading Bacillus licheniformis PWD-1 by use of an assay of the hydrolysis of azokeratin. Membrane ultrafiltration and carboxymethyl cellulose ion-exchange and Sephadex G-75 gel chromatographies were used to purify the enzyme. The specific activity of the purified keratinase relative to that in th

12. Novel Keratinase from Bacillus subtilis S14 Exhibiting Remarkable Dehairing Capabilities
We report the isolation of a keratinolytic-producing Bacillus subtilis strain and the characterization of the exceptional dehairing properties of its subtilisin-like keratinase. This enzyme can be an alternative to sodium sulfide, the major pollutant from tanneries, and may completely replace it. Its unique nonactivity upon collagen enhances its industrial p
