On May 2019, the members of the Anthropocene Working Group completed a binding vote to affirm some of the key questions that have been agreed in 2016: the Anthropocene should be considered as a formal chronostratigraphic unit, defined by a Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP), using one of the stratigraphic signals around the mid-twentieth cen

2. Palynological evidence of vegetation change during the last 10,000 years in the mid-valley of the Rio Doce, Brazil
ABSTRACT In order to reconstruct the vegetation history of the last 10.000 years, palynological analyses were carried out using 17 sedimentary samples of a core drilled in Parque Estadual do Rio Doce (PERD-MG). Twenty-one species of fern spores, 52 species of pollen grains and six species of fungi were identified. Phase 1 (10.375 - 9.350 cal. years BP) is ch

4. Fossils in quaternary micrites of Bodoquena Range, Bonito-MS and their application in paleoenvironmental studies / Fósseis em micritos quaternários da Serra da Bodoquena, Bonito-MS e sua aplicação em estudos paleoambientais
Bonito town and surrounding areas in Mato Grosso do Sul state are tourist attractions related with many quaternary carbonate deposits which form waterfalls, dams and render almost zero turbidity waters. That area is part of the National Park of Bodoquena Range and Pantanal Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO). Calcareous tufa are porous rocks formed by calcium carbona

Reconstrução da vegetação e do clima no Quaternário tardio / Interdisciplinary study of lacustrine sediments from Southeastern São Paulo state (Brazil). Late Quaternary vegetation and climate changes
One sediment core collected at the margins of a lake surrounded by Atlantic rainforest vegetation at Parque Estadual do Alto Ribeira (PETAR), southern São Paulo state (Brazil), was analyzed, in order to reconstruct the history of the local vegetation over the last 2500 years. Elemental (Total Organic Carbon TOC and Total Organic Nitrogen), isotopic (C and N

Sedimentary rocks of Cenozoic age, composed primarily of sand and clays, can be found in the city of Guarulhos, located in the metropolitan area of the city of São Paulo, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Paleogene sediments of this region represent a significant source of water for urban, industrial and agricultural activities. This basin is an integral part of

7. Avaliação do histórico de impactos antrópicos na bacia de drenagem do Lago das Garças (São Paulo-SP), durante o século XX, com base nos estoques de nutrientes, metais pesados e compostos orgânicos em sedimento lacustre / Evaluation of human impact at Garças lake drainage basin (São Paulo, SP) during the 20th Century based in nutrients, heavy metals and organic compounds in lacustrine sediments

8. Caracterização limnológica e análise de comunidades bentônicas sujeitas à invasão por espécies exóticas, em lagos do Vale do Rio Doce, MG, Brasil / Limnological characterization and analysis of benthic communities subject to the invasion by exotic species in Rio Doce Valley lakes, MG, Brazil
Benthic macroinvertebrates are important components of aquatic ecosystems due to their role in the energy flow and material cycling. They have gradually received more attention in ecological studies in the last decades. The present study aimed a comparative limnological characterization of four lakes belonging to the middle Rio Doce Valley lacustrine system,

9. "Rio Grande Reservoir: limnological characteristics of the water and metal bioavailability in sediment."
The Rio Grande branch is a part of Billings Complex and is isolated from the central body by Anchieta Dam. This reservoir is located in São Paulo Metropolitan Region and has multiple uses, including water supply, recreation, leisure, receptor of domestic and industrial wastewater. At the present work, the water column was studied in 6 stations along the res

10. Isolation and characterization of RNA from low-biomass deep-subsurface sediments.
Three methods for the isolation of microbial RNA from low-biomass deep-subsurface sediments have been developed and evaluated. RNA was isolated from samples taken from depths ranging from 173 to 217 m, and samples represented a variety of lithologies, including lacustrine, fluvial sand, and paleosol sediments. Cell numbers in these samples were estimated to

11. Early human occupation of Western Europe: Paleomagnetic dates for two paleolithic sites in Spain
The lacustrine deposits infilling the intramontane Guadix-Baza Basin, in the Betic Range of Southern Spain, have yielded abundant well-preserved lithic artifacts. In addition, the lake beds contain a wide range of micromammals including Mimomys savini and Allophaiomys burgondiae and large mammals such as Mammuthus and Hippopotamus together with the African s

12. Comparative Analysis of the Chemical Composition of Mixed and Pure Cultures of Green Algae and Their Decomposed Residues by 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
It is known that macromolecular organic matter in aquatic environments, i.e., humic substances, is highly aliphatic. These aliphatic macromolecules, predominantly paraffinic in structure, are prevalent in marine and lacustrine sediments and are believed to originate from algae or bacteria. A comparative study of mixed and pure cultures of green algae and the
