1. Deduction of Electric Field Module in a Multilayer of Isotropic Materials to Detect Surface Plasmons with a Graphical User Interface
Abstract Electric field module for any isotropic multilayer thin film structure, is presented as analytical deduction. Analytic expressions for the electric field distribution are developed initially for a monolayer isotropic system based on Airy's formulae and boundary conditions, with an incident monochromatic source of light. The transfer matrix method 2

2. Intercalation of Apocarotenoids from Annatto (Bixa orellana L.) into Layered Double Hydroxides
Synthetic conditions were evaluated to intercalate norbixin into layered double hydroxides (LDH). Norbixin was isolated from a hydrosoluble commercial annatto extract. LDH samples comprising M2+/Al3+ (M = Mg, Zn) were synthesized by coprecipitation and characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis coupled to mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopi

3. Dynamic Arrays Based on Magnetically Controlled Particles: Synthesis and Application
Growth mechanisms of dynamic granular arrays based on magnetically controlled particles are presented. Method of the external rotating magnetic field (ERMF), based on a dipole interaction of magnetic spherical Fe3O4 particles in highly ordered volume arrays is proposed and a design for its practical implementation is developed. The magnetic assembly can resu

5. Extremely high Faraday and Kerr rotations and extraordinary optical transmission in four-layer dielectric-metal strips-dielectric-Bi:YIG planar structure
Abstract Faraday and Kerr effects as well as the extraordinary optical transmission in a structure that combines magneto-optical and plasmonic properties are studied. The planar structure consists of four layers, namely, dielectric layer, metal strips, once again dieletric layer and magneto-optic one. The magneto-optical layer is magnetized by a DC magnetic

6. Magnetic Susceptibility of Soil to Differentiate Soil Environments in Southern Brazil
ABSTRACT The interest in new techniques to support digital soil mapping (DSM) is increasing. Numerous studies pointed out that the measure of magnetic susceptibility (MS) can be extremely useful in the identification of properties related with factors and processes of soil formation, applied to soil mapping. This study addressed the effectiveness of magnetic

7. Mechanical and thermal behavior of polyvinyl alcohol reinforced with aligned carbon nanotubes
ABSTRACTIn recent years, due to their high specific mechanical properties, the polymer matrix composites have been widely used. In particular, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been used as reinforcement due to its exceptional mechanical and electrical properties. In this work the mechanical behavior of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) reinforced with different percentage

8. Case depth in SAE 1020 steel using barkhausen noise
The most widely used thermochemical process for surface hardening of steels is case hardening. Using several different heat treatments, martensitic surface layers were formed on SAE 1020 steel into which carbon had been diffused. Case depths were measured by traditional destructive techniques. Barkhausen noise measurements were made and both the RMS Barkhaus

9. Catalisadores de Pd metálico modificados por líquidos iônicos para a hidrogenação seletiva de compostos poli-insaturados
In this work, heterogeneous catalysts immobilized on supported ionic liquid (IL) were prepared, characterized and investigated in hydrogenation reactions of the substrates 1,5-cyclooctadiene (1,5-COD), trans-cinnamaldehyde (CALD) and nitrobenzene (NB). Two methods were used to prepare the catalysts. In the first, commercial Pd/C catalyst was coated with diff

12. Computational modelling of MHD unsteady flow and heat transfer toward a flat plate with Navier slip and Newtonian heating
The combined effects of Navier slip and Newtonian heating on an unsteady hydromagnetic boundary layer stagnation point flow towards a flat plate in the presence of a magnetic field are studied. The self-similar equations are obtained using similarity transformations and solved numerically by a shooting algorithm with a Runge-Kutta Fehlberg integration scheme
