1. Biological activities of marine invertebrates extracts from the northeast brazilian coast

2. Biotechnological Properties of Sponges from Northeast Brazil: Cliona varians as a Biocatalyst for Enantioselective Reduction of Carbonyl Compounds
To research the potential ability of whole marine sponges to act as biocatalysts, this paper describes for the first time the employment of whole Cliona varians sponge in the stereoselective reduction of prochiral a-keto esters and isatin to the corresponding chiral alcohols. The addition of D-fructose, D-glucose or sucrose remarkably increased the conversio

3. Antinociceptive and Anti-inflammatory Activities of Marine Sponges Aplysina Caissara, Haliclona sp. and Dragmacidon Reticulatum
ABSTRACT Marine sponges are a rich source of bioactive natural products with multiple pharmacological properties. In this study, the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects of extracts obtained from Aplysina caissara, Haliclona sp. and Dragmacidon reticulatum were evaluated by using the writhing test and formalin-induced mouse paw edema model in mice.

4. Ecology and biotechnological potential of bacterial community from three marine sponges of the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
ABSTRACT Marine sponges has been a large reservoir of microbial diversity, with the presence of many species specific populations as well as producing biologically active compounds, which has attracted great biotechnological interest. In order to verify the influence of the environment in the composition of the bacterial community present in marine sponges a

5. Trypanocidal activity of organic extracts from the Brazilian and Spanish marine sponges
Abstract Chagas' disease is a parasitic infection caused by protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi that affect millions of people worldwide. The available drugs for treatment of this infection cause serious side effects and have variable efficacy, especially in the chronic phase of the disease. In this context, natural compounds have shown great potential for the disco

6. Metabolite variability in Caribbean sponges of the genus Aplysina
Abstract Sponges of the genus Aplysina are among the most common benthic animals on reefs of the Caribbean, and display a wide diversity of morphologies and colors. Tissues of these sponges lack mineralized skeletal elements, but contain a dense spongin skeleton and an elaborate series of tyrosine-derived brominated alkaloid metabolites that function as chem

7. Antimicrobial (including antimollicutes), antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities of Brazilian and Spanish marine organisms – evaluation of extracts and pure compounds
Abstract This work describes the antimicrobial, antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities in vitro of organic extracts from fourteen seaweeds, eleven sponges, two ascidians, one bryozoan, and one sea anemone species collected along the Brazilian and Spanish coast, as well as the isolation of the diterpene (4R, 9S, 14S)-4α-acetoxy-9β,14α-dihydroxydolas

8. The non-indigenous bryozoan Triphyllozoon (Cheilostomata: Phidoloporidae) in the Atlantic: morphology and dispersion on the Brazilian coast
ABSTRACT Bryozoans constitute an important component of marine-fouling communities of anthropogenic substrata. Many species have been reported as exotic or widespread around the world, typically in ports and harbors of non-polar regions. Here we present the first record of a species of the bryozoan Triphyllozoon in the Atlantic Ocean. Triphyllozoon arcuatum

9. Marine organisms as source of extracts to disrupt bacterial communication: bioguided isolation and identification of quorum sensing inhibitors from Ircinia felix
AbstractIn this study, 39 extracts from marine organisms were evaluated as quorum sensing inhibitors, collected in the Colombian Caribbean Sea and the Brazilian Coast including 26 sponges, seven soft corals, five algae and one zooanthid. The results showed that crude extracts from the soft coral Eunicea laciniata, and the sponges Svenzea tubulosa, Ircinia fe

10. Diversity of the candidate phylum Poribacteria in the marine sponge Aplysina fulva
Poribacterial clone libraries constructed for Aplysina fulva sponge specimens were analysed with respect to diversity and phylogeny. Results imply the coexistence of several, prevalently "intraspecific" poribacterial genotypes in a single sponge host, and suggest quantitative analysis as a desirable approach in studies of the diversity and distribution of po

Caracterização da diversidade de fungos filamentosos associados a esponjas marinhas e avaliação da produção de lacase = : Diversity of filamentous fungi associated with marine sponges and evaluation of laccase production / Diversity of filamentous fungi associated with marine sponges and evaluation of laccase production
The ocean represents a promissing habitat in the search for new microorganisms, which may have the ability to produce enzymes of industrial interests different from that produced by their terrestrial counterparts. In this context, two samples of the marine sponge Dragmacidon reticulatum were collected on northern coast of São Paulo State, aiming at the char

12. Diversidade e atividade antimicrobiana de bactérias isoladas de esponjas marinhas / Diversity and antimicrobial activity of bacteria isolated from marine sponges
