1. Active sensor as a tool for nitrogen application in spring wheat / Sensor óptico ativo como ferramenta para aplicação de nitrogênio na cultura do trigo
Nitrogen fertilization in spring wheat in southern Brazil is based on yield potential, soil organic matter and previous crop. These variables are not precise and subjected to errors, resulting on N losses and yield potential reduction. For N fertilization, it is necessary to quantify plant N nutritional status to determine top dressing N rates to be applied.

2. CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS ADVANCED DRIVE: APPROACH BASED ON HIGHER ORDER SLIDING MODES CONTROL / CONTRIBUIÇÃO AO ESTUDO DO ACIONAMENTO AVANÇADO DO MOTOR SÍNCRONO DE ÍMÃS PERMANENTES: ABORDAGEM BASEADA NOS MODOS DESLIZANTES DE ORDEM SUPERIOR
This work presents a study of first and second order sliding mode controllers applied to permanent magnet synchronous motor. The aim is a theoretical study and an experimental implementation, using the DSP TMS320F2812 platform, of two second order sliding mode controllers. In addiction a study about the first order sliding mode is presented. The inclusion of

3. Tunning of the Filter of Kalman for indirect measurement of the variable of state in the electrolytic bath / Sintonia do filtro de Kalman para medição indireta das variáveis de estado no banho eletrolitico
A tunning model for Kalman filter based on QR duality principle is presented to measure the state variables of the electrolytic bath in aluminium production cells. The main goal is to establish a set of filter gains that better represents the percentual of alumina in the bath. The filter bandwidth tunning is performed by increasing or decreasing the filter b

4. Seismic tomography with P- and S-waves for the study of the upper mantle in Brazil / Tomografia sísmica com ondas P e S para o estudo do manto superior no Brasil
We used travel time seismic tomography to study the upper mantle beneath SE and Central Brazil. This method is based on the inversion of P- and S-wave relative travel time residuals (VanDecar, 1991) obtained from more than 80 stations in an area of 20 x 20 degrees. More than 11000 P and PKP residuals, and more than 8000 S, ScS, SKS, and SKKS residuals were o

5. "Uma aplicação industrial de regressão binária com erros na variável explicativa" / "An industrial application of binary regression with errors-in-variable explanatory"
Neste trabalho, aplicamos um modelo de regressão binária com erros de medição na variável explicativa para analisar sistemas de medição do tipo atributo. Para isto, utilizamos o modelo logístico com erros na variável, para o qual obtemos as estimativas de máxima verossimilhança via o algoritmo EM e a matriz de informação de Fisher observada. Al

6. Adaptive neural control of a class of unknown nonlinear systems.
The well-known capacity of the neural networks structures to approximate functions and nonlinear systems, to any degree of accuracy, on a compact domain, has motivated its use in actual control problems where the presence of uncertainties is inevitable. Neural networks models can be used to parameterize unknown nonlinearities, hence, the linear parameterizat

7. An efficient optimization technique for recovering ventilation-perfusion distributions from inert gas data. Effects of random experimental error.
A variable metric optimization method of numerical analysis has been used to recover known distributions of intrapulmonary ventilation-perfusion ratios from inert gas data. Hypothetical lungs were simulated and corresponding inert gas retentions calculated. By using error-free retentions for seven gases and a 50-compartment model, it was possible to recover

8. Intraclass and Interclass Correlations of Allele Sizes within and between Loci in DNA Typing Data
Nonparametric measures of correlations of DNA fragment lengths within and between variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) loci are proposed to test the hypothesis of random association of allele sizes at VNTR loci. Transformations of these nonparametric correlation measures are suggested to detect deviations of their null expectations caused by population su

9. On methods of measuring nerve fibres.
Various methods of measuring axonal circumference and cross sectional area were examined. In measuring circumference, the Reichert MOP semi-automatic image analysis system varied more than a map meter. Several methods of area measurement were compared. Though all were relatively accurate in the long run, variability of individual measurements differed from o

10. Ionized calcium in normal serum, ultrafiltrates, and whole blood determined by ion-exchange electrodes
Ion-exchange calcium electrodes represent the first practical method for the direct measurement of ionized calcium [Ca++] in biologic fluids. Using both “static” and “flow-through” electrodes, serum [Ca++] was within a rather narrow range: 0.94-1.33 mmoles/liter (mean, 1.14 mmoles/liter). Within a given individual, [Ca++] varied only about 6% over a
