1. Ruthenium(II)-mercapto Complexes with Anticancer Activity Interact with Topoisomerase IB
Herein we present four new ruthenium(II) complexes: [Ru(mtz)2(dppb)] (1), [Ru(mmi)2(dppb)] (2), [Ru(dmp)2(dppb)] (3), and [Ru(mpca)2(dppb)] (4), where mtz = 2-mercaptothiazoline; mmi = 2-mercapto-1-methyl-imidazole; dmp = 4,6-diamino-2-mercaptopyrimidine; mpca = 6-mercaptopyridine-3-carboxylic acid; dppb = 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane. In vitro cell cult

2. Hybrid metal-organic nanocomposites based on vandium pentoxide / Nanocompósitos híbridos metal-orgânicos baseados em pentóxido de vanádio
Nanostructured systems based on the intercalation of molecular and supramolecular species into lamellar vanadium pentoxide xerogels are focused on this Thesis. The exciting characteristics of the supramolecular systems which are closely related to the nature, interaction and organization of the chemical species involved, have been exploited aiming their appl

3. Nitrosilo complexos de rutênio com ligantes bifosfínicos: espectroscopia, eletroquímica, estudo da reatividade e liberação de NO. / Ruthenium nitrosyl complexes with diphosphines ligands: spectroscopy, electrochemistry, reactivity study and nitric oxide labilization.
In this thesis some series of ruthenium nitrosyl complexes presenting as common characteristic the presence of diphosphines ligands in their structures, among them: dppm, dppe, c-dppen, dppp, dppb, dcpe and dppf were studied. It was sought in each series to evaluate the electronic properties of the coordinated NO as a function of the changes in the diphosphi

4. Study of the interaction of DNA with cisplatin and other Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes by atomic force microscopy.
Modifications in the structure of a 260 bp DNA (hlyM) fragment from Escherichia coli caused by interaction with Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes were studied. Cisplatin and transplatin [cis- and trans-PtCl2(NH3)2 respectively], Pt2Cl2(Spym)4 (Spym = 2-mercaptopyrimidine anion), Pd-famotidine and Pt-famotidine were incubated with DNA for 24 h at 37 degrees C and t
