São Francisco do Sul Island (SFSI) is located on the northern coast of Santa Catarina State, Brazil. It covers an area of about 265 km2 with an approximate length of oceanic coastline of 40 km. The island was formed by coastal depositional systems active during the relative sea-level changes of the last 120,000 years. The following relative sea -level fall

4. Mid- to Late-Holocene estuarine infilling processes studied by radiocarbon dates, high resolution seismic and biofacies at Vitoria Bay, Espirito Santo, Southeastern Brazil

5. Simulações de clima para o holoceno médio usando o MCGA do CPTEC, com ênfase sobre a América do Sul / Climate simulations of the mid-holocene as produced by the CPTEC atmospheric general circulation model in the south america

7. "Morfologia e sedimentologia ao longo do sistema praia-duna frontal de Ilha Comprida, SP" / "Morphology and sedimentology along the beach-foredune system of Ilha Comprida, SP".
Ilha Comprida is a Holocene sandy barrier-island located on the south coast of São Paulo State, 63 km long and 2 to 5 km wide. Its transverse boundaries are Cananéia and Icapara inlets, at the SW and NE, respectively. The beach-foredune system of Ilha Comprida have experienced intense morphological variation in time, as showed by the successive truncations

8. Evidence for cooler European summers during periods of changing meltwater flux to the North Atlantic
We analyzed fossil chironomids (nonbiting midges) and pollen in two lake-sediment records to reconstruct and quantify Holocene summer-temperature fluctuations in the European Alps. Chironomid and pollen records indicate five centennial-scale cooling episodes during the early- and mid-Holocene. The strongest temperature declines of ≈1°C are inferred at ≈

9. Mid- to late-Holocene El Niño-Southern Oscillation dynamics reflected in the subtropical terrestrial realm
High resolution pollen analysis of mid- to late-Holocene peat deposits from southwest Florida reveals a stepwise increase in wetland vegetation that points to an increased precipitation-driven fresh water flow during the past 5,000 years. The tight coupling between winter precipitation patterns in Florida and the strength of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation

10. Late Holocene human-induced modifications to a central Polynesian island ecosystem.
A 7000-year-long sequence of environmental change during the Holocene has been reconstructed for a central Pacific island (Mangaia, Cook Islands). The research design used geomorphological and palynological methods to reconstruct vegetation history, fire regime, and erosion and depositional rates, whereas archaeological methods were used to determine prehist

11. Radiocarbon dates on bones of extinct birds from Hawaii.
Bones from a stratified sedimentary deposit in the Puu Naio Cave site on Maui, Hawaiian Islands, reveal the late Holocene extinction of 19 species of birds. The age of the sediment and associated fauna was determined by direct radiocarbon dating (tandem particle accelerator-mass spectrometer; TAMS) of amino acids extracted from bones weighing as little as 45

12. Response of C3 and C4 plants to middle-Holocene climatic variation near the prairie–forest ecotone of Minnesota
Paleorecords of the middle Holocene (MH) from the North American mid-continent can offer insights into ecological responses to pervasive drought that may accompany future climatic warming. We analyzed MH sediments from West Olaf Lake (WOL) and Steel Lake (SL) in Minnesota to examine the effects of warm/dry climatic conditions on prairie–woodland ecosystems
