1. The sexual dimorphic inguinal glands of the frog species Ololygon centralis (Anura: Hylidae) at light and transmission electron microscopy
ABSTRACT The anuran skin characteristically has different types of glands, most of which are microscopic and are spread throughout the skin. Some species have specialized regions where glands agglomerate, forming macroglands. The description of the external morphology of Ololygon centralis (Pombal & Bastos, 1996) revealed the presence of an inguinal gland. O

3. MUC-1 expression in pleomorphic adenomas using two human milk fat globule protein membrane antibodies (HMFG-1 and HMFG-2)
Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common salivary gland tumor and its microscopic features and histogenesis are a matter of debate. Human milk fat globule protein membrane (HMFG) monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) comprise a set of antibodies against the mucin 1 (MUC-1) protein detected in several salivary gland tumors. Objective The aim of this study was to a

4. The effects of antidepressants and pilocarpine on rat parotid glands: an immunohistochemical study
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effects of antidepressants and pilocarpine on the quantity of myoepithelial cells and on the proliferation index of the epithelial cells of rat parotid glands. INTRODUCTION: Hyposalivation, xerostomia, and alterations in saliva composition are important clinical side effects related to the use of antidepressants. METHODS: Ninety m

5. FGF-2, TGFβ-1, PDGF-A and respective receptors expression in pleomorphic adenoma myoepithelial cells: an in vivo and in vitro study
Myoepithelial cells have an important role in salivary gland tumor development, contributing to a low grade of aggressiveness of these tumors. Normal myoepithelial cells are known by their suppressor function presenting increased expression of extracellular matrix genes and protease inhibitors. The importance of stromal cells and growth factors during tumor

6. Estudo da angiogenese em carcinomas salivares com e sem diferenciação mioepitelial / Angiogenesis in salivary carcinomas with and without myoepithelial differentiation
To investigate whether salivary carcinomas with and without myoepithelial differentiation could present differences regarding degree of angiogenesis, we compared tumor vascularization between adenoid cystic (31 cases) and epithelial- myoepithelial carcinomas (14) versus mucoepidermoid (37) carcinoma. The expression of peroxiredoxin I was also studied to veri

7. Alterations of E-cadherin and β-catenin genes in pleomorphic adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma: molecular and immunohistochemical study / Alterações nos genes da E-caderina e β-catenina em adenoma pleomórfico e carcinoma adenóide cístico: estudo molecular e imuno-histoquímico
Pleomorphic adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma represent a benign and malignant salivary gland neoplasm, respectively, that shares the same histological origin, however with distinct biological behavior. The aim of the present study was identify the -160 C/A polymorphism in the gene CDH1, mutational analysis of CTNNB1 gene and evaluation the expression of

8. Avaliação imunoistoquimica de celulas mioepiteliais no diagnostico diferencial de lesões benignas e malignas da mama / Immunohistochemical assessment of myoepithelial cells in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of the breast

The acini of pelvian glands of Chaetophractus villosus (Desmarest, 1804) consisted of an inner layer of secretory cells and an outer layer of myoepithelial cells. Secretory cells have numerous secretory vacuoles. The secretion is released by exocytosis. Myoepithelial cells have numerous myofilaments that occupy much of the cytoplasm. There is a third cell ty

10. Estudo bioquimico e ultraestrutural da matriz extracelular durante atrofia experimental de glandulas submandibulares de ratos
Obstructive atrophy of salivary glands is a common disease. It may occur by ductal obstruction caused by calculus, infection or neoplastic processes. In the present work we have used electron microscopy and biochemical methods to study the changes that occur in the expression laminin, type IV collagen and metaloproteinases during the experimental atrophy of

11. Analise histoquimica e ultraestrutural da matriz extracelular de glandulas submandibulares atroficas de camundongo
Histochemical detection of collagen and elastic fibers was carried out in duct-ligated submandibular glands of mice. A progressive increase of collagens fibers was observed both in extra-lobular and intra-lobular space. Elastics fibers were not found in the intra-lobular region of normal submandibular glands. This tissue was only found around dilated duct-li

12. Cytochemical characterization of the myoepithelial cells in palatine glands.
Myoepithelial cells of rat and mouse palatine glands are similar in fine structural appearance to those of other exocrine glands and smooth muscle cells. Myoepithelial cells reveal fibrils, and vesicular structures comparable to pinocytic or surface vesicles of smooth muscle cells. Lanthanum-impregnated preparations of the gland reveal that many of these ves
