1. Low-Overhead Low-Complexity Carrier Phase Recovery Technique for Coherent Multi-Band OFDM-Based Superchannel Systems Enabled by Optical Frequency Combs
Abstract In this paper, we have designed a low-overhead low-complexity carrier phase tracking scheme for OFDM-based superchannel transmission system enabled by optical frequency combs. In this scheme, taking advantage of the broadband phase coherence provided by optical frequency combs among the OFDM-bands, the carrier phase retrieved from pilot-subcarriers

2. Frequency Domain Interleaving for Dense WDM Passive Optical Network
Abstract In this work, we introduce a new concept of frequency interleaving applied to passive optical networks based in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM). In order to explore colorless ONUs approach, a single and centralized optical source is used to create the interleaved wavelengths for the downstream and upstream path. In this case, frequency

3. Link Optimization and Performance Analysis of a 40 Gbps DQPSK Modulated Ultra DWDM System with 32 Orthogonally Polarized channels
Abstract The demand for higher speed at a lesser transmission cost per bit resulted in growth of optical networks with improved spectral efficiency even at narrower channel spacing. Incorporation of multilevel modulation formats in DWDM system led to the exploration of the 25 GHz channel grid, popularly known as Ultra Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed (U

4. Experimental optical generation of DP-16QAM modulation format for high spectral efficiency optical transmission
In this paper, we present a simple experimental method to generate a DP-16QAM optical signal for high spectral efficiency optical transmission. A 16QAM optical signal is generated by passing a DP-QPSK signal through a linear polarization filter in a certain angle so that a square 16QAM can be achieved. Afterwards, we use a polarization multiplexer in order t

5. Spectrally-efficient 17.6-Tb/s DWDM optical transmission system over 678 km with pre-filtering analysis
We present and analyze a 17.6-Tb/s DWDM optical transmission composed of 79 channels with 224-Gb/s RZ-DP-16QAM modulation format per-channel and coherent detection. A maximum reach of 678 km is obtained with an optical recirculation loop composed by 226 km of pure-silica core fibers and EDFA amplification only in a 50-GHz grid system with spectral efficiency

7. Transmission of a 20 Gb/s NRZ OOK signal throughout a 390 km fiber link and a cascade of 11 x 50 GHz filters and 9 x EDFAs
This paper presents a qualitative analysis of the impact caused by fiber propagation effects and by a cascade of optical filters, designed for 10 Gb/s NRZ OOK transmission, and optical amplifiers on a 20 Gb/s NRZ OOK optical signal traveling a 390 km fiber link. The choice for such bit rate and modulation format has been driven by the 50 GHz bandwidth of the

9. Study of special modulation formats for optical communication / Estudo de formatos especiais na modulação digital para comunicações ópticas
This MSc thesis investigates optical modulation formats as an alternative to the use of the traditional intensity binary format NRZ (Non-return-to-zero). Those formats, classified as advanced, represent one of the key technologies aimed to enable the high data volume and broadband, demanded by the present telecommunication market, with cost reduction of tran

10. Caracterização espectral e avaliação de desempenho para formatos avançados de modulação digital optica em 40 Gb/s / Spectral characterization and performance evaluation for advanced digital optical modulation formats at 40 Gb/s
This work compares the performance of four feedforward carrier recovery architectures in coherent QPSK and 8-PSK receivers, with polarization multiplexing and differential decoding. We focused on the scenarios showing an SNR imbalance between orthogonal polarizations, as in PDL impaired systems. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we observed that the proposed jo
