1. Application of bioabsorbable screw fixation for anterior cervical decompression and bone grafting
OBJECTIVES: To examine the application of bioabsorbable screws for anterior cervical decompression and bone grafting fixation and to study their clinical effects in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. METHODS: From March 2007 to September 2012, 56 patients, 36 males and 20 females (38-79 years old, average 58.3±9.47 years), underwent a novel operation.

2. COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN OSTEOSYNTHESIS IN CONVENTIONAL AND BIOABSORBABLE IMPLANTS IN ANKLE FRACTURES
Objective:To compare the functional results of ankle fractures treated with metallic and absorbable plates. Twenty patients were randomized into two groups (metallic and absorbable implant groups) and followed prospectively. In the immediate postoperative period, patients were immobilized with plaster casts for one week, which was replaced by a removable cas

3. Análise da resistência à corrosão e ao desgaste do aço inoxidável austenítico ASTM F 138 tratado por laser / Corrosion and wear resistance analysis of ASTM F 138 austenitic stainless steel treated by laser

4. Estudo comparativo entre a haste intramedular bloqueada e a placa em ponte no tratamento cirúrgico das fraturas da diáfise do úmero / Comparative study using nonreamed intramedullary locking nail and bridging plate for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures

5. Age-hardening of Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta alloy for orthopaedic implants
Bone injuries and failures often require the inception of implant biomaterial. Research in this field has received increasing attention recently. In particular, porous metals are attractive due to its unique physical, mechanical, and new bone tissue ingrowth properties. The aim of this work is to investigate age hardening behavior of Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta alloy pr

6. Electrochemical characterization of UNS S31254 austenitic stainless steel in 0.11 mol L-1 NaCl medium in order to propose its application in orthopaedic implants / Caracterização do aço inoxidável austenítico UNS S31254 em meio de NaCI 0,11 mol L-1 visando seu emprego em implantes ortopédicos

7. Neovascularisation and the induction of cell adhesion molecules in response to degradation products from orthopaedic implants.
OBJECTIVES--To characterise the cellular interactions and the mechanisms involved in the recruitment of inflammatory macrophages and T cells to the bone implant interface in 30 patients with aseptically loosened orthopaedic prostheses. METHODS--Cell adhesion molecules E-selectin, VCAM-1, ICAM-1 and the receptors LFA-1 and CR3 were immunolocalised on cryostat

8. Soft tissue malignant lymphoma at sites of previous surgery.
Three diffuse centroblastic lymphomas developed at the site of previous surgery. Two were preceded by atypical lymphoid infiltrates. Clinical data, microscopic features, and immunophenotypic studies were reviewed. All three patients presented with soft tissue masses at the site of previous surgery and metallic implants, with no evidence of lymphadenopathy, h

9. Improved Detection of Biofilm-formative Bacteria by Vortexing and Sonication: A Pilot Study
Bacteria such as staphylococci commonly encountered in orthopaedic infections form biofilms and adhere to bone implants and cements. Various methods to disrupt the biofilm and enhance bacterial detection have been reported. We will describe the effectiveness of vortexing and sonication to improve the detection of biofilm-formative bacteria from polymethylmet
