1. Microbiological outcomes from different periodontal maintenance interventions: a systematic review
Abstract This study aimed to investigate the differences in the subgingival microbiological outcomes between periodontal patients submitted to a supragingival control (SPG) regimen as compared to subgingival scaling and root planing performed combined with supragingival debridement (SPG + SBG) intervention during the periodontal maintenance period (PMP). 2. Photodynamic therapy associated with full-mouth ultrasonic debridement in the treatment of severe chronic periodontitis: a randomized-controlled clinical trial
Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a method of microbial reduction which can benefit periodontal treatment in areas of difficult access, such as deep pockets and furcations. The aim of this randomized controlled clinical trial was to evaluate the effects of PDT as an adjunct to full-mouth ultrasonic debridement in the treatment of severe chronic per

3. Avaliação do efeito adjunto da terapia fotodinâmica antimicrobiana aos procedimentos de raspagem e alisamento radicular em pacientes fumantes. Estudo clínico controlado e randomizado / The adjunctive effect of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy to nonsurgical periodontal treatment in smokers: a randomized clinical trial

4. Endodontic and prosthetic treatment of teeth with periapical lesions in a 16-year-old-girl
This paper reports the nonsurgical endodontic therapy using calcium hydroxide intracanal dressing and prosthetic treatment of 9 teeth with periapical lesions in a 16-year-old female patient. The periodontal treatment plan included oral hygiene instructions, mechanical debridement and gingivectomy in the maxillary incisors to improve gingival contouring. Root

5. Effect of ultrasonic instrumentation on the bond strength of crowns cemented with zinc phosphate cement to natural teeth. An in vitro study
Several studies have reported the benefits of sonic and/or ultrasonic instrumentation for root debridement, with most of them focusing on changes in periodontal clinical parameters. The present study investigated possible alterations in the tensile bond strength of crowns cemented with zinc phosphate cement to natural teeth after ultrasonic instrumentation.

6. Metronidazol e amoxicilina associados ao debridamento periodontal no tratamento da periodontite cronica avançada / Metronidazole and amoxicilin asociated with periodontal debridement in the treatment of severe chronic periodontitis

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical effects of a single course of full mouth debridement with ultrasound associated to irrigation with 0.5% pvp-iodine in chronic periodontitis patients. Forty patients were randomly assigned into three groups: The CG group received quadrant root planning at intervals of one week over four consecutive ses

8. Avaliação de tratamentos de defeitos intra-osseos
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of periodontal instrumentation alone and in conjunction with surgical mucoperiosteal flaps in the treatment of intrabony defects. This investigation was performed in accordance with the guideline of the UNIVALI Committee for Research Ethics. Intrabony defects (2 or 3 walls) around mandibular incisors, canines,

9. Avaliação clinica e radiografica da regeneração tecidual guiada no tratamento de lesões de bifurcação classe II. Estudo em humanos
The present study was designed to compare, clinically and radigraphically, the treatment of class II mandibular molar furcation defects with guided tissue regeneration (GTR) using GUIDOR@ membranes (test group) dr open flap debridement (control group). The sample consisted of 19 furcation defects in mandibular molars, in 9 patients. In each patient, the furc

10. Periodontal Disease as a Specific, albeit Chronic, Infection: Diagnosis and Treatment
Periodontal disease is perhaps the most common chronic infection in adults. Evidence has been accumulating for the past 30 years which indicates that almost all forms of periodontal disease are chronic but specific bacterial infections due to the overgrowth in the dental plaque of a finite number of mostly anaerobic species such as Porphyromonas gingivalis,

11. Dialister pneumosintes Associated with Human Brain Abscesses
In this report, we review two cases of brain infection due to Dialister pneumosintes in previously healthy patients. The bacterium was isolated from the first patient by blood culture and directly from a brain abscess in the second patient. In both cases, the infection was suspected to be of nasopharyngeal or dental origin. The patients had favorable outcome

12. Reduced oxidative function in gingival crevicular neutrophils in periodontal disease.
Measurable amounts of viable and functional polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) are recovered from pooled washings of the gingival crevice of healthy individuals. In the present study, we have assessed the ability of the PMNs removed from single healthy or diseased pocket sites to mount an oxidative burst when challenged with phorbol myristate acetate (PMA)
