2. Influence of sintering temperature on the development of alumina membrane shaped by centrifugal casting for gas separation
Abstract The development of ceramic membranes for the most diverse separation processes has gained high visibility, mainly due to their better performance in harsh environments in comparison to polymeric materials. Among the different techniques used to prepare tubular ceramic membranes, the centrifugal casting (CC) is interesting for obtaining highly homoge

3. Application of a composite ultrafiltration membrane for biodiesel purification
ABSTRACT This study was carried out to investigate the potentialities of the application of membrane technology in biodiesel purification without need of the decantation step. A new composite UF membrane was prepared from poly(vinylidene fluoride) casting solution (17 wt%) containing a sulfonated Carbon (20 wt%). The assays were performed in a dead-end filtr

4. Tratamiento de efluentes acuosos provenientes de la industria de biodiesel, utilizando tecnología de membranas
ABSTRACT The wastewaters from biodiesel production are generated mainly in the washing process, in this step the contaminants of biodiesel are eliminated in order to the obtained biodiesel meets with the internationals regulations. These wastes contain impurities such as methyl ester, residual oil, mono and diglycerides, soluble salts, catalyst, soap, glycer

5. Fractionation of Apis mellifera venom by means of ultrafiltration: removal of phospholipase A 2
Abstract The fractionation of apitoxin (bee venom) by means of a commercial 10 kDa ultrafiltration membrane was investigated aiming at the removal of phospholipase A2, the main allergenic substance. The feed content was varied from 1 to 50 g apitoxin/L, in deionized water, and caused changes in membrane flux and rejection, due to concentration polarization.

6. Application of submerged membrane bioreactor technology for the treatment of high strength dairy wastewater
Abstract In this study, an aerobic submerged membrane bioreactor (sMBR) was used for the treatment of dairy wastewater at 15 h of hydraulic retention time (HRT) and 40 d of sludge retention time (SRT) with constant permeate flux (9.5 L.m-3.d-1(LMH)). The COD, ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) and orthophosphate (PO4-P) removal efficiencies were 98.2%, 95.4% and 88.9%

7. Analysis of fouling and juice quality in crossflow ultrafiltration of watermelon juice
Abstract Raw watermelon juice was clarified in a laboratory scale flat plate ultrafiltration system incorporating polyethersulphone membranes with a molecular weight cut-off of 50 kDa. The experiments have been carried out over a wide range of trans-membrane pressures (1-3 bar). The effect of ultrafiltration with molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of 50 kDa PES

8. Analysis of Composite Membranes in the Separation of Emulsions Sunflower oil/water
Oil is a major pollutant of water resources, affects aquatic life, causing environmental degradation. Currently there is an increase in studies of membrane applied to separation of oil-water. Among these membranes, there are composite membranes, which show as main characteristic an association of organic and inorganic membrane properties. In a tangential flo

9. Oil Removal from Produced Water by Ultrafiltration using Polysulfone Membrane
Abstract The present paper deals with the ultrafiltration (UF) of produced water using a polysulfone membrane. Membranes were prepared by the phase inversion technique using polysulfone (PSf) polymer base, poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) additive and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent. Prepared UF membranes were characterized by determining the surface morpho

10. Hybrid Membranes of Polyamide Applied in Treatment of Waste Water
In this work, it was prepared hybrid membranes of polyamide6 (PA6) with montmorillonite (MMT) and porogenic agent (CaCl2). The hybrid membranes with CaCl2 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), porosimetry by mercury intrusion

11. NANOFILTRATION AND REVERSE OSMOSIS APPLIED TO GOLD MINING EFFLUENT TREATMENT AND REUSE
Abstract Gold mining and ore processing are activities of great economic importance. However, they are related to generation of extremely polluted effluents containing high concentrations of heavy metals and low pH. This study aims to evaluate the optimal conditions for gold mining effluent treatment by crossflow membrane filtration regarding the following v
