1. Medical treatment in pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism: systematic review and meta-analysis

2. Expression of Endothelin-1 and Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase in Normal and Preeclamptic Placentae

3. Plasma nitric oxide, endothelin-1, arginase and superoxide dismutase in the plasma and placentae from preeclamptic patients

4. Risk factors for nosocomial infection in a Brazilian neonatal intensive care unit
This study was designed to describe the epidemiology and risk factors for nosocomial infection (NI) in a Brazilian neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This study was a retrospective cohort from January to December, 2003. All neonates admitted to the NICU. Infection surveillance was conducted according to the NNIS, CDC. Chi-square test and logistic regressio

Therapeutic ultrasound is widely used in different aesthetic treatment by young women, who can be irradiated during early gestation. Researches regarding the effects of therapeutic ultrasound on gestation present controversial results. Methodologies incompatible with clinical aspects are used and different methods and technics were employed. However none of

6. Malformações fetais, defeitos de desenvolvimento e sinais dismorficos em filhos de mães com epilepsia / Fetal malformations, development defects and dysmorphic signs in outcomes of women with epilepsy
Rationale: The majority of women with epilepsy do not experience significant changes during pregnancy; however the persistence of seizures and the effect of antiepileptic drugs (AED) may affect the fetus. These effects include lower intrauterine growth, dysmorphisms, fetal malformation and neuropsicomotor developmental delay. Most studies report that the ris

7. Morfometric relation between uterus and placentae with the uterine capacity gilts / Estudo da relação morfométrica de útero e placenta com a capacidade uterina em leitoas

8. Expression and localization of estrogen receptor-alpha protein in normal and abnormal term placentae and stimulation of trophoblast differentiation by estradiol
Estrogens play an important role in the regulation of placental function, and 17-beta-estradiol (E2) production rises eighty fold during human pregnancy. Although term placenta has been found to specifically bind estrogens, cellular localization of estrogen receptor alpha (ER-alpha) in trophoblast remains unclear. We used western blot analysis and immunohist

9. Studies on placentae and infants from women vaccinated for smallpox during pregnancy
Sixty-five placentae from women who had been vaccinated while pregnant were examined for the presence of the inclusion bodies of vaccinia. Also suspensions from 40 of the placentae were inoculated into the chorio-allantoic membrane of chick embryos in an attempt to culture any vaccinia virus present. Both these studies gave negative results.

10. Leukemia inhibitory factor inhibits HIV-1 replication and is upregulated in placentae from nontransmitting women
The placenta may play a critical role in inhibiting vertical transmission of HIV-1. Here we demonstrate that leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is a potent endogenous HIV-1–suppressive factor produced locally in placentae. In vitro, LIF exerted a potent, gp130-LIFRβ–dependent, HIV coreceptor–independent inhibition of HIV-1 replication with IC50 values b

11. The Trophoblastic Epithelial Barrier Is Not Infected in Full-Term Placentae of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Seropositive Mothers Undergoing Antiretroviral Therapy
To study the mechanism of the placental barrier function, we examined 10 matched samples of term placentae, cord blood, and maternal blood obtained at delivery from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected mothers with children diagnosed as HIV negative in Sweden. All placentae were histologically normal, and immunochemistry for HIV type 1 p24 and gp120 a

12. Placental involvement in congenital neuroblastoma.
We describe two cases of congenital neuroblastoma involving the placenta and review previously reported cases. The placentae in congenital neuroblastoma have a bulky, hydropic appearance, and contain tumour cells which are confined to the fetal circulation. The tumour emboli are not macroscopically identifiable. Pathophysiological mechanisms of placental inv
