1. Gradientes de orientación en cercanías del borde de grano estudiados por EBSD
ABSTRACT The goal of this study is the evaluation of local misorientation, its distribution and orientation gradient in the microstructural development of a deep drawing quality steel sheet (AKDQ). The microstructure is characterized at sub-grain level spatial resolution using Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) in samples submitted to interrupted uniaxi

2. Finite Element Method Based Modeling of Resistance Spot-Welded Mild Steel
Abstract This paper deals with Finite Element refined and simplified models of a mild steel spot-welded specimen, developed and validated based on quasi-static cross-tensile experimental tests. The first model was constructed with a fine discretization of the metal sheet and the spot weld was defined as a special geometric zone of the specimen. This model pr

3. The effect of specimen dimensions on the propensity to adiabatic shear failure in Kolsky bar experiments
The issue of adiabatic shearing is discussed in this work and a new interpretation is given to some failure phenomena which are usually termed as adiabatic shears. We propose that only a few materials undergo a truly inherent failure which is due to thermal softening at the shearing zone and that the interplay between microvoids, cracks and narrow shear band

4. EFEITO DA TENSÃO NOMINAL NO TAMANHO E FORMA DA ZONA PLÁSTICA / THE ESTIMATES OF THE SIZE AND SHAPE OF THE PLASTIC ZONES, TRADITIONALLY USED IN THE NOMINAL STRESS IN FRACTURE MECHANICS
The estimates of the size and shape of the plastic zones, traditionally used in Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM), are based on the supposition that the stress intensity factor (SIF) KI (or KII or KIII) is the only necessary parameter to describe them. However, when the linear elastic stress analysis problem is solved in an Inglis plate, or the cracke

5. Effect of Storage of Mueller-Hinton Agar Plates on Zone Sizes for Antimicrobial Testing
The length of time Mueller-Hinton agar plates can be stored at 4 C without affecting the size of zones of inhibition in susceptibility testing by the Bauer-Kirby method was studied. It was found that these plates can be stored for 3 weeks at 4 C without an appreciable affect on zone sizes. Storage of plates in sealed plastic bags did not alter the results si
