1. Physiological responses of growing pigs to high ambient temperature and/or inflammatory challenges
ABSTRACT Global warming is one of the major environmental threats facing the world in the 21st century. This fact will have a significant impact on pig production due to its direct effects on welfare, health, and performance of pigs. Besides, the effects of high temperatures will presumably become more important over the next decades due to the development o

2. Crescimento pró-pobre : análise dos estados brasileiros entre 1995 e 2007 / Pro-poor growth: an analysis of the brazilian states between 1995 and 2007

9. IGF-1 derived small neuropeptides and analogues: a novel strategy for the development of pharmaceuticals for neurological conditions
Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is neuroprotective and improves long-term function after brain injury. However, its clinical application to neurological disorders is limited by its large molecular size, poor central uptake and mitogenic potential. Glycine-proline-glutamate (GPE) is naturally cleaved from the IGF-1 N-terminal and it is also neuroprotecti

10. Cytokine Production and Monocyte HLA-DR Expression as Predictors of Outcome for Patients with Community-Acquired Severe Infections
This study was performed to evaluate the impact of pro- and anti-inflammatory molecules and human leukocyte antigen DR (HLA-DR) expression as markers of immune status for the final outcome of septic patients. The study included 30 patients with severe sepsis due to community-acquired infections. Concentrations of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interle

11. Identification of the structural gene for dipeptidyl aminopeptidase yscV (DAP2) of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae lacking dipeptidyl aminopeptidase yscV were isolated from a strain already defective in dipeptidyl aminopeptidase yscIV, an enzyme with overlapping substrate specificity. The mutants were identified by a staining technique with the chromogenic substrate Ala-Pro-4-methoxy-beta-naphthylamide to screen colonies for the absenc

12. Characterization of cold-sensitive secY mutants of Escherichia coli.
Mutations which cause poor growth at a low temperature, which affect aspects of protein secretion, and which map in or around secY (prlA) were characterized. The prlA1012 mutant, previously shown to suppress a secA mutation, proved to have a wild-type secY gene, indicating that this mutation cannot be taken as genetic evidence for the secA-secY interaction.
