2. Modeling the pull-in instability of the CNT-based probe/actuator under the Coulomb force and the van der Waals attraction
Carbon nano-tube (CNT) is applied to fabricate nano-probes, nano-switches, nano-sensors and nano- actuators. In this paper, a continuum model is employed to obtain the nonlinear constitutive equation and pull-in instability of CNT-based probe/actuators, which includes the effect of electrostatic interaction and intermolecular van der Waals (vdW) forces. 3.

4. Responsividade do tecido pulmonar periférico de pacientes com doença pulmonar obstrutiva crônica / Hyperresponsiveness of peripheral lung parenchyma in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
No presente estudo foi investigado o comportamento mecânico in vitro e as alterações e

The aim of the present work was to estimate genetic parameters that provide the definition of a breeding strategy, looking for the development of new varieties of carrot adapted to the conditions of Distrito Federal agroecologic cultivation. Considering data from tests in areas of agroecologic cultivation (Natural Agriculture - AN and Organic Agriculture - A

7. RACH2, a novel human gene that complements a fission yeast cell cycle checkpoint mutation.
We have identified a novel human gene by virtue of its ability to complement the rad1-1 checkpoint mutant of Schizosaccharomyces pombe. This gene, called RACH2, rescues the temperature-sensitive lethality of a rad1-1 wee1-50 double mutant of S. pombe. Expression of RACH2 in S. pombe rad1-1 strains partially restores UV resistance to the rad1-1 mutant strain.

8. The Equine Herpesvirus 1 IR6 Protein That Colocalizes with Nuclear Lamins Is Involved in Nucleocapsid Egress and Migrates from Cell to Cell Independently of Virus Infection
The equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) IR6 protein forms typical rod-like structures in infected cells, influences virus growth at elevated temperatures, and determines the virulence of EHV-1 Rac strains (Osterrieder et al., Virology 226:243–251, 1996). Experiments to further elucidate the functions and properties of the IR6 protein were conducted. It was shown

9. Equine Abortion (Herpes) Virus: Evaluation of Markers in a Field Vaccination Trial
Twelve mares were vaccinated with attenuated equine abortion virus (EAV) strain RAC-H. Two nonvaccinated mares served as controls. In at least three mares the vaccination appeared to coincide with a natural infection. This was indicated by characterization of the EAV isolated from nasal secretions of six vaccinated mares, a nonvaccinated control, and also fr

10. Equine Abortion (Herpes) Virus: Strain Differences in Susceptibility to Inactivation by Dithiothreitol
The infectivity of equine abortion (herpes) virus (EAV) was inactivated by treatment with reduced dithiothreitol (DTT). According to their susceptibility to DTT, the EAV strains could be divided into three groups. The vaccine strain RAC-H (419) proved to be more resistant to DTT than all of the other 14 strains tested. The hemagglutinin of EAV was also inact

11. The Dictyostelium discoideum family of Rho-related proteins
Taking advantage of the ongoing Dictyostelium genome sequencing project, we have assembled >73 kb of genomic DNA in 15 contigs harbouring 15 genes and one pseudogene of Rho-related proteins. Comparison with EST sequences revealed that every gene is interrupted by at least one and up to four introns. For racC extensive alternative splicing was identifi

12. The Equine Herpesvirus 1 US2 Homolog Encodes a Nonessential Membrane-Associated Virion Component
Experiments were conducted to analyze the equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) gene 68 product which is encoded by the EHV-1 US2 homolog. An antiserum directed against the amino-terminal 206 amino acids of the EHV-1 US2 protein specifically detected a protein with an Mr of 34,000 in cells infected with EHV-1 strain RacL11. EHV-1 strain Ab4 encodes a 44,000-Mr Us2 pr
