1. Estudo do acoplamento spin-órbita de multipartículas confinadas em pontos quânticos semicondutores
Spin-orbit (SO) coupling provides a way for orbital degrees of freedom to influence spin states. As a result the spin dynamics is affected, thus making spin qubit (quantum version of bit, basic unit of information in the computational language) operations more complex. Furthermore, spin-orbit coupling leads to spin decoherence and relaxation due to phonons,

2. Decoherence and relaxation time in an ensemble of quantum dots / Tempos de relaxação e decoerencia em ensembles de pontos quanticos
Experimental measurements were carried out to determine the scales of the relaxation and decoherence time for the electronic spin as quantum bit. The structure of the exciton states was investigated with the objective to serve as intermediate states in the spin manipulation. The system studied for the implementation of the quantum computation is an ensemble

3. A first principles investigation of mercuric iodide: bulk properties and intrinsic defects
We carried a theoretical investigation on the properties of mercuric iodide in the red tetragonal crystalline phase, and its respective intrinsic defects. Our calculations were performed using the ab initio spin-polarized full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method, and taking into account full atomic relaxation. The results on the structural, elec

4. Novos desenvolvimentos e aplicaÃÃes de mÃtodos de quÃmica quÃntica para compostos de coordenaÃÃo com Ãons lantanÃdeos
Theoretical studies on lanthanide compounds were performed, and divided into three parts: (i) generalization of the Linderberg-Seamans equations for an s-p-d-f basis set; (ii) study of the ligand-to-lanthanide ion charge transfer transitions (LMCT) with the ZINDO98 program using the INDO/S semiempirical hamiltonian and (iii) a study of point charge and charg

6. Nuclear-spin-lattice relaxation mechanics for CaF2:U3+. / Mecanismos de relaxação spin-nuclear-rede em CaF2:U3+.
In this work we describe the construction of two sample temperature controlled equipments that operate between 77K and 300K and between 300K and 700K. We show the results of T1 and T2 measurements over the temperature range of 77K to 700K with the static field Ho parallel to [111] direction and 24MHz. We discuss the T1 and T2 behavior in this range temperatu

7. Eletron Paramagnetic Resonance: theory of experiments. Electronic relaxation of the intersticial atomic hydrogen in CaF2: evidence of spectral diffusion / Ressonância Paramagnética Eletrônica: teoria da medida.

8. Comparison of the magnetic properties of deoxy- and photodissociated myoglobin.
The magnetic susceptibility of photodissociated carbon monoxy myoglobin has been measured over the temperature range from 1.7 to 25 K at 10 and 50 kG with a superconducting susceptometer. The spin and the crystal field parameters of the iron ion were extracted by a spin Hamiltonian approach. Under equivalent conditions the magnetic susceptibility of deoxy my

9. Geminate recombination of O2 and hemoglobin.
The photolysis of HbO2 and HbCO has been studied by measuring transient absorption spectra in the Soret region after excitation with picosecond pulses at 530 nm. Dissociation occurred promptly in both cases, followed (for HbO2) by geminate recombination of ca. 40% of the photodissociated O2 with a lifetime of 200 +/- 70 psec (25 degrees C). No recombination
