Cardiac diseases, whether congenital or acquired, show a high mortality rate worldwide and in Brazil, they represent the major cause in natural deaths with 29.9% of the cases. The social and economical impact of those pathologies on the Brazilian Public Health System is particularly worsened due to the lack of resources and the need to optimize the scarce re

5. Expressão gênica diferencial das células estromais obtidas de medula óssea na presença ou ausência de célula tumoral oculta em pacientes com câncer de mama / Differential gene expression of bone marrow stromal cells from breast cancer patients in the presence or abscence of occult tumor cells
Stromal cells may influence tumor development in primary and secundary sites, however, molecular characteristics of bone marrow stromal cells from breast cancer patients are almost unknown. Our aim was to evaluate the differential gene expression of bone marrow stromal cells from breast cancer patients in the presence or abscence of occult tumor cells. Bone

6. Role of SUMO in RNF4-mediated Promyelocytic Leukemia Protein (PML) Degradation: Sumoylation of pml and phospho-switch control of its sumo binding domain dissected in living cells*
Promyelocytic leukemia protein (PML) is a tumor suppressor acting as the organizer of subnuclear structures called PML nuclear bodies (NBs). Both covalent modification of PML by the small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) and non-covalent binding of SUMO to the PML SUMO binding domain (SBD) are necessary for PML NB formation and maturation. PML sumoylation and

7. Role for draTG and rnf Genes in Reduction of 2,4-Dinitrophenol by Rhodobacter capsulatus
The phototrophic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus is able to reduce 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) to 2-amino-4-nitrophenol enzymatically and thus can grow in the presence of this uncoupler. DNP reduction was switched off by glutamine or ammonium, but this short-term regulation did not take place in a draTG deletion mutant. Nevertheless, the target of DraTG does no

8. Rnf2 (Ring1b) deficiency causes gastrulation arrest and cell cycle inhibition
The highly homologous Rnf2 (Ring1b) and Ring1 (Ring1a) proteins were identified as in vivo interactors of the Polycomb Group (PcG) protein Bmi1. Functional ablation of Rnf2 results in gastrulation arrest, in contrast to relatively mild phenotypes in most other PcG gene null mutants belonging to the same functional group, among which is Ring1. 9. PARP-1 transcriptional activity is regulated by sumoylation upon heat shock
Heat shock and other environmental stresses rapidly induce transcriptional responses subject to regulation by a variety of post-translational modifications. Among these, poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation and sumoylation have received growing attention. Here we show that the SUMO E3 ligase PIASy interacts with the poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase PARP-1, and that PIASy media

10. Specific spin-labeling of transfer ribonucleic acid molecules.
The spin labels anhydride (ASL), bromoacetamide (BSL) and carbodiimide (CSL) were used to label selectively tRNAGlu, tRNA fMet and tRNAPhe from E. coli. The preparation and characterization of the sites of labeling of eight new spin-labeled tRNAs are described. The sites of labeling are: s2U using ASL, BSL and CLS and tRNAGlu; s4U using ASL and BSL on tRNAfM
